The Virtual Worlds and Digital Games group explores technologies and applications in the area of Mediated Reality. This includes, but is not limited to, research and development of novel approaches to virtual and augmented reality (VR / AR), mixed reality (MR), and diminished reality (DR). This includes novel methods from the areas of computer vision, computer graphics, human-machine interfaces, and distributed virtual or augmented environments, in particular also using deep learning approaches. We offer a dynamic working environment in an international team, with the commitment to be one of the leading research groups worldwide in this field. With our publications, we are consistently represented at high-level international conferences and conduct a large number of externally funded projects, both interdisciplinary and with application partners from the private sector.

Through the Institute for Intelligent and Interactive Immersive Media and Technologies (I4MT), we are closely linked to numerous groups at the university. This provides the basis for new collaborations, innovative ideas and projects in the context of larger funding formats. The Ilmenau Interactive Immersive Technologies Center (I3TC) with its infrastructure (i.e., CAVE, Virtual Studio) is available for technical realization and administrative support.

We are now looking for an employee with a completed PhD and proven research activity in the context of virtual and augmented reality, computer graphics or computer vision to support and expand our team. The position is particularly suitable for applicants who wish to further qualify themselves with a view to an academic career.

Your tasks

Your job tasks include :

• Excellent independent research in an area closely related to VR / AR / MR / XR.
• Initiation of own research projects and support in the application of third-party funded projects of the department
• Coordination and / or project management of externally funded projects
• Teaching of 4-6 LVS (one LVS comprises at least 45 minutes of teaching time per week of the semester's lecture period) related to VR / AR and / or digital games in various bachelor and master programs
• Call for innovative topics for theses and student projects, and their supervision and evaluation (in cooperation with the head of the group)
• Producing high-quality publications of international standing and presenting research results at relevant conferences
• Continuously monitoring relevant publications and advancing the state of the art, incorporating new methods and approaches into own solutions
• Participation in university committees as well as external expert committees

The position is initially limited to three years. An extension for another three years is possible. Legal restrictions (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz) apply.
