The Department of Psychology at Norfolk State University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2024. We welcome candidates from all areas of specialization within Psychology to apply; however, preference will be given to applicants who hold a doctorate in Clinical or Social Psychology. The successful candidate will teach courses primarily at the undergraduate level, engage in scholarly research, student mentorship, and serve on various departmental committees
Founded in 1935, Norfolk State University is a public, Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the coastal city of Norfolk, VA. NSU offers degrees at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. The Psychology Department, one of the largest departments at NSU, offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A and B.A. Online) in General Psychology, a Master of Science (M.S.) in CyberPsychology the first program of its kind at HBCU and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology as part of the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology. The successful candidate will :
- Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in Psychology. Preference will be given to the candidate with exceptional promise in one of the following specializations : Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Neuroscience, Experimental Psychology, CyberPsychology, Human Factors Psychology
- Actively engage in research / scholarship and grant writing
- Engage in exemplary teaching and advising
- Collegially engage with faculty, staff, and, students
