The role :

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of system and safety engineers, providing direction, support, and career development opportunities.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of system engineering activities for electric drive units, including requirements management, system design, integration, validation, and verification.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, mechanical, and software engineers, to develop technical concepts for electric powertrain systems, ensuring they meet automotive performance and safety requirements.
  • Ensure the team delivers high-quality engineering solutions for electric drive units within budget and on time.
  • Establish and maintain system engineering processes, tools, and best practices specifically tailored for electric drive units to improve efficiency and ensure compliance with automotive industry standards.
  • Drive the development and implementation of safety-critical systems for electric powertrains, ensuring compliance with automotive safety standards such as ISO 26262.
  • Identify risks and work closely with safety engineers to implement mitigation strategies for electric drive unit systems.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison for key stakeholders, including OEMs, suppliers, and internal teams, ensuring alignment on system architecture and performance targets.
  • Support the acquisition process by providing technical expertise during customer meetings, proposals, and bid processes to secure new business opportunities in the electric vehicle sector.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, acting as a trusted technical advisor and ensuring the team's responsiveness to customer needs and expectations.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in electric vehicle (EV) development to ensure the team's technical capabilities remain cutting-edge.
  • Manage resource allocation, budget planning, and project schedules to optimize the team's performance and ensure successful project delivery for automotive applications.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in system engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, ideally in the automotive or electric vehicle sector
  • Proven experience in the development of electric drive units or electric powertrain systems, with a strong understanding of electric motor, inverter, and gearbox integration.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering projects in the automotive industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of system engineering principles, processes, and tools, with a focus on electric vehicles.
  • Experience with safety engineering methodologies and risk management in compliance with ISO 26262.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience in customer relationship management and involvement in the acquisition process for new projects or business development.
  • Experience in electric vehicle development, with expertise in electric drive units and powertrain systems.
  • Certification in safety standards such as ISO 26262, or similar.
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and tools such as SysML.
  • Experience working with automotive OEMs and suppliers in electric powertrain projects.
  • Proven experience supporting the acquisition and proposal process for technical solutions in the automotive industry
