Job Summary :

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at CSA Group. A Laboratory Engineer (m / f / d) is required to join our team to work on the testing of hazardous location (HAZLOC) equipment. This role will be based in our upcoming state of the art new facility in Plattling, Germany.

The Position :

As part of this team, you will have the opportunity to test new and emerging products for safety before they hit the market. You will be involved in a world class organization dedicated to creating a better, safer, and more sustainable world.

Responsibilities :

  • Assumes total responsibility for the completion of assigned projects within negotiated time and cost schedules.
  • Conducts a wide range of test procedures on sample equipment to the applicable standards and interprets results of the test. Determines or works with Certifier confirming which tests are required; the order in which to perform tests and the number of samples required. Performs tests and calculations, compiles data and summarizes test results into test reports. Verifies calculations are consistent with results of measurements. Determines whether product passes or fails subject to review by Certifier.
  • Assembles and disassembles test samples, hooks-up laboratory test equipment in preparation for testing; operates most laboratory test equipment without supervision.
  • Notes and records substandard features of products which may appear before or during the tests and refer them to Product Group Manager, Laboratory Manager or Certifier.
  • Maintains good housekeeping of tools, equipment and work area following tests and carry out assigned laboratory clean-up duties.
  • Responsible for follow-up for any non-conformances as a result of calibration, with guidance from supervisor.
  • Responsible for the integrity of customer samples while in the laboratory as per company procedures.
  • Interacts with jobholder / certifier to plan activities, exchange information, review and approve lab reports.
  • May make field trips and assist in work outside the laboratories as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
  • Processes paperwork jobs from opening to distribution where no engineering is involved (i.e. alternative construction, change of records and multiple listings) if required.

Education & Experience :

  • Technical Certificate or equivalent education and experience in electrical or mechanical technologies.
  • Associates degree in Engineering Technology OR
  • 5-8 years of related experience
  • Use of various lab equipment, instruments and tools
  • Practical knowledge of working with test and measurement instruments and equipment, such as : dynamometer, power supplies, multi meters, and thermocouple oscilloscopes, operation of machines such as drills, mill machines, table saw, band saw.
  • Thorough knowledge of Standards and testing procedures
  • Must be able to read, interpret and develop engineering drawings and test data
  • Must have some knowledge of Laboratory instrumentation, including operating principles and calibration procedures, as well as general Laboratory procedures
  • Skills :

  • Ability to manage difficult or unusual projects simultaneously and meet promised delivery dates
  • Team-oriented with good interpersonal skills and abilities to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Must be self-motivated and client-service oriented
  • Demonstrated systematic problem-solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, follow-through and evaluate assigned functions and duties
  • Demonstrated ability to work with some supervision. Good communication skills and ability to provide feedback to less experienced personnel when needed
  • Strong organizational, time and project management skills to complete job tasks independently and in a time-efficient manner
  • Technical report writing
  • Computer proficiency (Word processing, Microsoft Word, Excel)
  • Good knowledge of German and English (written and spoken)
  • Demonstrated awareness of safety principles
