FRS Clipper seeks a highly skilled and experienced individual who shares our passion and love of the Pacific Northwest to fill the role of Chief Mate. This position is a key member of the team providing safe and efficient operation of our high-speed passenger catamaran, as well as providing the best host experience for our guests. The Chief Mate is on watch with the Master and is the leader of the emergency response team. The fast ferry and international route are unique in the Pacific Northwest. FRS Clipper is homeported in Seattle, travels daily to Victoria, BC., and the schedule allows you to be home nightly. The Chief Mate reports to the Staff Captain.
Status : Seasonal Full-Time or Seasonal Part-Time, with potential Year-Round position available.
This position offers potential for Relief Captain with a pathway to permanent Captain.
Location : Seattle, Pier 69 Waterfront
Schedule : 12 hour Shifts. Day shift. Includes weekends and holidays (scheduling does have some flexibility) . A full-time schedule usually includes 15 shifts per month.
Key Responsibilities
- On watch with Master using Navigator / Co-Navigator cockpit type bridge
- Leader of emergency response team, including operation of rescue boats, deployment of life rafts, crowd control, fire team response and damage control
- Support and assist with vessel maintenance and inspections
- Oversee mooring operations on deck
- Preparation of vessel for departure and arrivals
- Conduct Safety drills and ensure safety equipment is in good working order
- Oversee loading and unloading of passengers
- Maintain accurate logs and records of the vessel operations
- Ensure compliance with all maritime laws and regulations
- Provide excellent customer service while ensuring a safe, reliable, and enjoyable travel experience for our guests.
