Opportunity Overview As a member of the Rhythm international field-based Medical Affairs team you will be working within the field of Rare Genetic Disease of Obesity.
The Scientific Affairs Manager (SAM) will serve as a trusted scientific partner to external experts and decision makers through mutual scientific engagement and exchange. The SAM will leverage their scientific background, industry knowledge, and business acumen to act as a scientific resource to both internal experts and internal colleagues. He / she will support the local Hospital Affairs Lead (HAL) and will be responsible for building peer to peer relationships with external experts and other stakeholders to provide clinical, scientific, and medical education in the territory. The SAM will support research initiatives, advisory boards, and other compliant scientific exchange activities to support Rhythm ’ s strategically aligned Medical Affairs Plan aimed at identifying and addressing the unmet needs of people living with rare genetic disorders of obesity.
Responsibilities and Duties Responsible Scientific Affairs Manager for the respective territory in Germany.
Member of the International Medical Affairs team, develop and implement the Local Medical Affairs strategically aligned plan.
Serve as primary point of contact for all German external experts to ensure consistent and seamless communication and outreach to all external stakeholders.
Be a trusted scientific partner to external experts by conducting timely, appropriate, and frequent scientific exchanges to enhance the understanding of the scientific and medical value of Rhythm’s research.
Serve as scientific peer-to-peer resource to disease experts and medical community with up-to-date relevant medical information and product information to build scientific understanding of the benefits of setmelanotide within the rare genetic diseases of obesity community.
Map patient journeys, diagnosis and therapeutic patterns, whilst building and developing peer-to-peer relationships with the relevant external experts.
Establish local genetic testing initiatives in collaboration with HCPs and obesity treatment networks to aid experts in uncovering people with rare genetic disease of obesity.
Closely collaborate with Global Clinical Development and Operations on interactions with investigators participating in Rhythm’s clinical trials, investigator meetings and advisory boards.
Support clinical trial execution attending to the needs of investigators.
Triage pressure points that may impede progress of clinical studies to the cross functional team for timely resolution.
Assist in identification and education of referral sites for clinical trials and investigators to drive trial enrolment.
Develop and implement a novel scientific communication plan for setmelanotide, and contribute to the medical / scientific review of manuscripts.
Interpret key scientific data and translate this information to meet educational and research needs in alignment with Rhythm Medical Communication.
Provide medical / scientific review of scientific communication platforms, medical information resources, medical education materials & marketing materials to ensure local Germany compliance.
Provide input and feedback on training initiatives directed at medical colleagues to deepen their product and scientific knowledge within the therapy area, and support the design of informative medical decks for external use.
Communicate in a compelling manner the medical value of the asset, inside and outside of Rhythm, such that it generates excitement and enthusiasm.
Ensure on all levels cross-functional collaboration with Marketing, Regulatory, Drug Safety, Market Access, and Research & Development.
Support the scientific communication plan by identifying HCP knowledge gaps and facilitating medical / scientific non-promotional presentations Provide scientific input and participate into local medical and cross-functional initiatives / projects Maintain effective and appropriate communication among internal stakeholders (Medical Affairs colleagues, Medical Information, etc.) while maintaining full compliance with relevant company, industry, legal and regulatory requirements Respond to unsolicited requests for medical information in a timely manner.
Ensure that an accurate and fair-balanced response is provided Qualifications and Skills Advanced degree in a pharmaceutical, scientific, or medical field (PharmD, PhD, MD) 8 or more years’ experience within a Medical Science Liaison or similar field facing role with primary emphasis on field based scientific exchange within biopharmaceutical / rare disease area strongly preferred. Relevant pharmaceutical and clinical / therapeutic experience also a consideration Demonstrates superior communication skills and scientific acumen when presenting clinical, disease state information to a variety of audiences, fluent in local language for Germany.
Fluent in verbal and written English Demonstrates knowledge of regional / local specific healthcare systems, the evolving medical landscape, reimbursement and industry trends. More about Rhythm We are a dynamic and growing global team spanning more than a dozen countries.
