We are currently looking for a Clinical Laboratory Geneticist / Cytogeneticist / Biologist (m / f) for our department “National Center of Genetics” for a permanent position on a full-time basis (40h / week)
ABOUT THE LABORATOIRE NATIONAL DE SANTÉ
The LNS is a major player in Luxembourg’s healthcare sector, serving the country’s patients, doctors and hospitals. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the LNS is a multidisciplinary public institution organized around six medical departments, two of which are designated as national diagnostic centers for human genetics and pathology respectively.
The LNS employs around 400 highly qualified staff with diverse backgrounds. The main purpose of the LNS is to develop analytical activities and scientific expertise relating to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases; to act as a national control or reference laboratory; and to carry out forensic missions. The LNS also collaborates with the University of Luxembourg and other biomedical research institutions, both nationally and internationally, on research and teaching activities.
In particular, in the field of diagnostics, the LNS covers the following fields of application : medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine, environmental medicine, morphological and molecular pathology, and clinical genetics, as well as sequencing for rare diseases, oncology and pathogens.
ABOUT THE NATIONAL CENTER OF GENETICS (NCG)
The National Center of Genetics (NCG), at the LNS, is responsible for human genetic care in Luxembourg. One of the goals of the NCG is to build up genomic medicine and precision oncology, using a state of the art sequencing facility, and to provide high-level health care to the Luxembourgish population. The NCG is a major stakeholder of two national public health programs : the Plan National Maladie Rare and the Plan National Cancer.
The Hematooncogenetics Unit focuses on the hematological malignancies. The broad spectrum of methods includes cytogenetic, molecular cytogenetic (FISH), molecular genetics and Bionano analyses.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participating in the daily management of the laboratory;
- Genetic diagnostics and reporting with focus on tumor cytogenetics;
- Cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic activities (evaluation of metaphases as well as FISH and Bionano analyses and preparation of findings) in hematological neoplasms;
- Participate in the development of research projects and applying scientific knowledge in expanding the diagnostic and research portfolio of the NCG;
- Seek funding from national (FNR) and international funding bodies including writing scientific proposals;
- Optimizing existing methods and developing new ones;
- Planning, interpretation and reporting of molecular genetic examinations
- Participation in the development and maintenance of a quality system based on (ISO 15189);
- Participating in external quality control trials;
- Training and supervision of the technicians;
- Participating to clinical staff meeting at National Center of Genetics and in other multidisciplinary meeting.
