The Faculty Biology and Chemistry of the Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) is offering at the earliest possible date a

Doctoral scholarship (m / f / d)

on the following topic : „ Metabolic interaction network of th e human host -microbiota for context-specific disease“, Reference number B2024 / 1

The amount of the scholarship is 1.200,- € per month plus a monthly lump sum of 150,- € for material and travel expenses and, if applicable, a child allowance. The scholarship is granted for 36 months.

Prerequisites :

• University degree in Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, Biological engineering, or a related field that allows admission to doctoral studies
• Above-average study and examination results that demonstrate a particular aptitude for scientific work
• Strong background in computational tools and programming languages (Python, MATLAB) and Familiarity with the COBRAPy and GEM software is a plus
• Experience in some but not necessarily all of the following techniques : machine learning, dynamical modeling, big data analysis, microbial genomics, genome-scale modeling, and metabolic network analysis. This is an interdisciplinary project that will require Broad basic knowledge
• Willingness for active interdisciplinary cooperation and high intrinsic motivation in a team-working
• High willingness to independently familiarize yourself with new technologies and strengthen your own profile
• Compliance with the statutes of the Justus Liebig University Giessen to ensure good scientific practice in all work
• The doctoral project should make an important and outstanding contribution to the advancement of knowledge
