Laboratory Technician / Hardware Technician (f/m/d)
eleQtron GmbHSiegen, NW, DEeleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computing is a new computing paradigm rapidly approaching commercial viability. Our unique approach combines laser-cooled trapped ions with microwave control and tailored magnetic fields. Our next-generation computing machines under development will be able to find solutions to problems that are out of reach today, thus enabling new innovative products and services for a brighter future.
We are looking for a Laboratory Technician / Hardware Technician (f/m/d)
Responsibilities:
As a Laboratory Engineer / Technician (f/m/d), you will work hands-on to assemble, integrate, test, and maintain complex quantum computing hardware systems. You will ensure that systems operate reliably from initial assembly through commissioning and handover to hardware operations. This is a purely hands-on role with no design responsibility or theory-heavy research work. You ensure that the hardware operates reliably, cleanly, and safely while working closely with engineers and scientists to support them in complex technical tasks.
Assemble, integrate and modify mechanical, electrical and opto-mechanical laboratory systems
Build and maintain complex subsystems, including:
Vacuum chambers and vacuum components
Precision mechanical assemblies
Cabling, wiring and connector systems
Electronics racks, enclosures and lab infrastructure
Optical mounts and basic optical alignments
Perform hands-on technical work such as:
Drilling, tapping, mounting and fastening of precision parts
Cable routing, labeling and documentation
Leak checks and basic vacuum work
Visual inspections, functional checks and fault isolation
Support system integration, testing, and commissioning
Troubleshoot and fix practical hardware issues:
Loose connections, misalignments, mechanical tolerances
Wiring errors, damaged components, assembly mistakes
Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs
Maintain a clean, safe and well-organized lab environment
Document work in a clear, technical and reproducible manner
Required skills:
Completed vocational training (Ausbildung) as Mechatronics Technician, Electronics Technician, Precision Mechanician or a comparable technical trade
Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience with complex, high-precision systems in industry, high-tech manufacturing, or R&D environments
Strong practical skills in:
Mechanical assembly of precision systems
Handling tools, fixtures and workshop equipment
Reading and executing technical drawings and work instructions
Structured, reliable and safety-conscious working style
Ability to work independently and switch between multiple tasks and teams
Very good German skills (C1/C2 level) and comfortable working in an English-speaking technical environment
Nice-to-have:
Experience in high-tech or R&D environments, e.g.:
Research laboratories
Cleanrooms
Semiconductor, vacuum, cryogenic or optics labs
Field service or maintenance background
Experience directly supporting engineers and scientists
Basic understanding of optics, lasers or cryogenics
Genuine interest in advanced hardware and quantum technologies
