Autonomous driving is one of the most demanding research topics of our time. The enormous complexity of realworld driving situations gives rise to an outstanding challenge : How can it be assessed whether an automated driving system is safe to drive without any supervision knowing that there are so many more situations out there that no one might even think of from todays perspective

• In this position you will face this challenge under the aspect of statistical validation : You will bridge the gap between theory and application by contributing to mathematical theory (particularly to probability theory and statistics) as well as by applying your ideas and concepts to realworld driving data.
• You will work in a team of interdisciplinary scientists. By appropriate statistical modelling you will investigate the possibility to look beyond the data and to anticipate the remaining risks that are hiding out there.
