We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Global Head of Risk Management to join our executive leadership team and drive our comprehensive risk management strategies. The role is based in Munich (Germany).

Allianz Commercial is a trusted partner for a wide range of tailored commercial and specialty insurance solutions designed to protect MidCorp, Specialty and LargeCorp businesses. Formerly known as “AGCS” in the market, this new franchise is Allianz Group’s integrated global model for serving the Commercial Property & Casualty insurance segment.

The Team

You will sit in a newly created unit and report to the Chief Risk and Resilience Officer (CRRO), a Board Member of Allianz Commercial. As the Global Head of Risk Management, you will lead an integrated and diverse team of 8 direct reports and ~35 experts focused on Solvency Steering, Enterprise Risk Management, ALM & Investment Risk Steering as well as Undewriting Risks. The scope of the role covers the legal entity of AGCS SE and its subsidiaries incl. Asian branches, AGR US and ART AG.

The Impact You Will Have

The Global Head of Risk Management is responsible for developing and implementing a robust enterprise risk management framework. You will ensure the company's financial stability, regulatory compliance, and strategic growth by proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across all business units. Your recognized strategic, collaborative, ethical, and transformational leadership will enable you to effectively steer the organization in a complex and changing risk landscape.

Scope of responsibilities

You will lead the development and implementation of risk management strategies, ensuring they are integrated into business planning and decision-making processes. This involves overseeing risk identification, evaluation, and mitigation to protect the company's financial performance, reputation, and strategic objectives.

It is expected that you manage the global risk profile, maintain an integrated control system, and foster a strong risk culture through training and communication. Additionally, you will oversee insurance programs, collaborate with internal audit, stay updated on industry trends, and lead the risk management team to address emerging risks and challenges.

Your role is to ensure independent risk oversight and transparency, while recommending, maintaining, and reporting on AGCS' Risk Strategy. Together with the CRRO, your focus includes developing a Global Risk Management Communication Strategy with the Board of Management and Risk Committee.

Additionally, we will establish risk policies and processes in line with Allianz Group and local regulatory requirements, integrating risk management into decision-making processes. We will also develop risk measurement frameworks for insurance, market, and operational risks, and manage accumulation controls with independent methodological reviews.

A key part of your mandate will be to participate actively in the management team of the Allianz Commercial CRRO Management Team.

Building strong, lasting relationships with stakeholders across the Group (especially with Group Risk) and the broader industry will be essential in fostering collaboration and driving results. You will work closely with the Compliance, Legal, Audit and all business functions globally and regionally.

Key required competencies

You should possess extensive senior management experience within an insurance company, with a profound understanding of risk management, particularly for international portfolios.

A deep understanding of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and enterprise risk management frameworks is expected. Proficiency with risk management tools and technologies, along with strong leadership and strategic thinking abilities, is also necessary to drive proactive risk management and business success.

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with the ability to make data-driven decisions and intermediate proficience in leveraging AI, are crucial. You are also capable of navigating the entire insurance value chain with a transversal mindset.

This role requires a proven track record in managing critical business scenarios across matrix organizations, including turnarounds, restructurings, and the redesign of highly complex business processes on a large scale. The successful candidate will have a history of driving value over time, consistently delivering results.

In addition to expertise in conflict management, particularly in arbitrage and independent decision-making, the candidate must possess strong fact-based decisiveness to resolve issues swiftly and effectively.

You are eager to demonstrate your outstanding organizational and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and confidently to diverse audiences. Your recognized interpersonal and people leadership skills, cultivating trust-based relationships and fostering a collaborative team culture, will make a difference in this role. Fluency in English is required, and proficiency in additional languages is advantageous. The role demands the ability to travel regionally and internationally as needed.
