The Technical Services department at Gigafactory Berlin's Building and Infrastructure team is seeking an experienced Underground Utilities Systems Engineer.
This role is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the underground utilities systems, including wastewater systems (sewage canals, lifting stations, etc.), rainwater systems (rainwater canals, infiltration basins, sedimentation basins, etc.), domestic water systems (fresh drinking water), and greywater systems.
The engineer will develop Standards of Operation (SOO), maintenance plans, and concepts, ensuring systems operate efficiently and in compliance with all relevant regulations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the maintenance and operation of wastewater, rainwater, domestic water, and greywater systems, ensuring optimal functionality and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
- Develop and implement Standards of Operation (SOO) and maintenance plans tailored to each utility system.
- Create and refine concepts to improve system efficiency, reliability, and environmental performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS), the Waste Management team, the Permitting team, and the Wastewater Treatment (WWT) team, to ensure alignment and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure all practices and systems comply with water protection area regulations and any other relevant legal requirements.
- Monitor and analyze system performance, identifying and implementing opportunities for optimization and cost savings.
- Plan and execute projects for infrastructure upgrades, repairs, or new installations related to underground utilities.
- Develop documentation, technical reports, and maintenance records to support compliance, efficiency improvements, and safety audits.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to technicians and other personnel involved in system operations and maintenance.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory authorities and stakeholders to ensure all systems are up-to-date with legal and environmental requirements.
- Read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and engineering drawings to support system understanding, maintenance, and optimization.
