About Jewelry & Industrial Metals

A wealth of applications. Umicore is an expert in developing products and processes based on precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum. These materials enable our customers to make fine jewelry, coins, high-purity glass and industrial catalysts. Umicore also enables the sustainable and responsible sourcing of these metals and provides closed-loop recycling for our customers. To make the most of these materials we cannot stand still. What you will be doing

The future EHS Manager will be responsible for an effective EHS management in Pforzheim, assuring full compliance with EHS legislation and Umicore’s guidance / standards. Supporting within the Business Unit (BU) EHS Process Technology functions at all BU Jewelry & Industrial Metals (JIM) sites.

Together with the other members of the Management Team of Agosi, the jobholder is responsible for designing, implementing and continuous improving the short, medium and long term Health, Safety and Environmental strategies and tactical plans of the BU, in line with the RISE vision and corporate EHS roadmaps.

The role is directly responsible for Occupational and Process Safety, Emergency Response & Fire Prevention, H&S Systems and Performance Management, with a functional responsibility over Occupational Health (which reports directly to the Group Director Health & Wellbeing).

Main areas of responsibility :

People management :

  • Manage, lead and develop the EHS Team in Pforzheim in the spirit of result oriented, self-motivated and cooperative team work

Safety :

  • Guide and actively support all departments to transform their safety culture in the framework of the safety vision and caring leadership culture
  • Define goals and objectives for the year action plan to drive the continuous improvement of safety performance
  • Ensure incidents are properly analysed and corrective actions are implemented to prevent reoccurrence
  • Establish a comprehensive and consistent process safety management system is in place, led by operational areas and technically supported by the process safety team
  • Manage the team of prevention advisors to provide consistent and efficient support to all areas, projects and safety initiatives
  • Provide support and collaborate with Business Excellence to ensure that a consistent process is in place to manage contractor works onsite. Regularly monitor the safety performance of contractors

    • Health

  • Support the deployment of employee health and wellbeing programs and initiatives, in cooperation with Corporate Health & Wellbeing
  • Regularly review occupational incidents, illnesses and medical leaves with HR and the local works doctor
  • Ensure that occupational exposures to chemical, physical and biological agents are properly assessed, measured, controlled and documented, leading to a continuous reduction in such exposures

    • Environment

  • Guidance and active support of all departments in the implementation of their legal obligations within the scope of their responsibilities
  • Ensuring that the requirements for Seveso site are implemented (Störfall-Verordnung 12. BImSchV)
  • Ensure that the delegate functions are implemented and kept up to date
  • Ensuring that the requirements placed on a contaminated site (Altlastenstandort) are implemented
  • Ensure that the Umicore Environment Standards / Guidelines are Implemented and trained
  • Provide support and collaborate with IMS to ensure that a consistent process is in place for ISO

    • Process Technology EHS function :

  • Responsible for the regular exchange of EHS best practices within the BU JIM
  • Communicate and coordinate on new regulatory or Umicore policies and standards for BU JIM
  • Communicate and coordinate on Umicore EHS roadmap deployment within BU JIM
  • Support BU JIM sites on EHS topics where needed

    • Who we are looking for

  • University degree, preferably Masters in Engineering / Chemistry or equivalent experience
  • Degree in safety engineering EHS management
  • Open minded, innovative, showing initiative and able to develop new concepts and to deliver creative solutions
