As Head of Fleet and Research Operations, you will be responsible for the strategic management, financial oversight, and operational efficiency of the department. You will ensure the effective deployment of resources, drive innovation in marine research infrastructure, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the fleet.

• Key Responsibilities : Strategic Leadership : Maintain strong collaboration with scientific teams, ensuring alignment of policies and priorities across the organization. Act as a key driver of innovation and operational excellence while serving as a Management Team member.
• Operational Management : Lead the team leaders of Development and Support, fleet captains, and Fleet Office personnel, fostering a culture of collaboration, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
• Financial & Strategic Planning : Advise the executive leadership on financial strategies, personnel planning, and operational improvements, translating high-level objectives into actionable plans.
• Fleet & Equipment Oversight : Manage the development, maintenance, and modernization of the research fleet, including advanced scientific instruments and onboard technology.
• Safety & Compliance : Ensure all operations meet strict safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, guaranteeing a safe and effective working environment.
• Infrastructure & Partnerships : Drive the development of marine research facilities, building partnerships with key players in the maritime industry, government, and research sectors.
• Innovation & Future Growth : Support the integration of autonomous and remotely operated vessels, enhancing the organization's capabilities in modern oceanographic research.

Voor een toonaangevend instituut op het gebied van oceanografisch en marien onderzoek zoeken wij een verbindende, strategische en technisch onderlegde leider voor de rol van Hoofd National Marine Facilities (NMF).

Functie omschrijving

Klimaatverandering en biodiversiteitsonderzoek zijn actueler dan ooit. De afdeling NMF speelt hierin een cruciale rol door wetenschappelijk zeeonderzoek wereldwijd mogelijk te maken via het beheer van een moderne onderzoeksvloot en de ontwikkeling en ondersteuning van geavanceerde boordtechnologie.

De hoofdvestiging én haven zijn gelegen op Texel.

Over de organisatie

Onze opdrachtgever is hét nationale expertisecentrum voor oceanografisch onderzoek in Nederland en draagt bij aan de ontwikkeling van duurzame oplossingen op het gebied van klimaat en biodiversiteit.

Er werken circa 350 medewerkers van meer dan 35 nationaliteiten, verdeeld over twee locaties : Texel en Yerseke. De organisatie bestaat uit zes afdelingen, waaronder vier wetenschappelijke en twee ondersteunende afdelingen. NMF is een van de belangrijkste ondersteunende afdelingen en bestaat uit een team van ongeveer 50 collega's.

De afdeling beheert de nationale onderzoeksvloot en werkt momenteel aan een volledige vlootvernieuwing. Daarnaast wordt er volop ingezet op innovatie via autonome en op afstand bestuurbare vaartuigen (robotics).

NMF bestaat uit drie subafdelingen :

Als Hoofd NMF ben je eindverantwoordelijk voor het dagelijks management van de afdeling. Je stuurt op strategie, personeel, financiën en operatie, en draagt actief bij aan de nationale rol van de organisatie op het gebied van mariene infrastructuur.
