• Determines materials and tools, methods and techniques best suited to achieve required results. Ensures ladders and scaffolds are properly set up and adjusted. As required, restores the cleanliness of parts and equipment by removing accumulations of paint, corrosion, rust, grease, oil, and dirt. Uses such cleaning methods as brushing, chipping, grinding, and steam cleaning. Smoothes, fills, shapes, and levels surfaces.
• Mixes and applies coating. Prepares coating materials by tinting, toning, matching, and blending, considering changes in shades of color after drying process. Mixes and combines agents and additives such as catalyst and drying agents. Applies -proper color and thickness. Uses the full variety of tools and equipment common to the trade, such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, straight edges, and trowels. In the performance of the repair work, is assisted by a craftsman in a lower wage group, or helper. Renders technical advice to personnel in lowers grades and performs on-the-job instructions.
