The Max-Born Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy (MBI) conducts basic research in the field of nonlinear optics and ultrafast dynamics arising from the interaction of light with matter and pursues applications that emerge from this research. It develops and uses ultrafast and ultra-intense lasers and laser-riven short-pulse light sources in a broad spectral range in combination with methods of nonlinear spectroscopy. The spectral range includes in particular XUV radiation and soft x-rays, where experiments at in-house sources are complemented with the use of accelerator driven sources such as free electron x-ray lasers.
With its research, MBI fulfils a national mission and is an integral part of the international scientific community.

MBI invites applications for PostDoc (m / f / d) for performing all-attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy in atoms and molecules.
Job profile :
The successful applicant will perform experiments using a worldwide unique experimental setup for all-attosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. Following a recent breakthrough in our lab, where we demonstrated the first table-top all-attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy experiment, the goal is to study extremely fast electron dynamics in atoms and molecules. The position provides some flexibility with respect to the physical processes to be studied, which will be discussed with the applicant.
The entire project will be realized in an optimal environment with respect not only to the existing infrastructure but also to the available experience and possibilities for national and international collaborations. This will provide the necessary basis for achieving essential results within shortest time as well as for their dissemination at international level.
Requirements :
We are looking for highly motivated and talented applicants. PhD in physics is required. Experience in attosecond physics, pump-probe spectroscopy and absorption spectroscopy are highly desired.
Offer :
MBI offers a 2-year appointment. The payment is according to the German TVöD salary scheme for scientists in public research institutions.
MBI is an equal opportunity employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. MBI supports the reconcilability of family and working life and is certified as a family-friendly by the "family audit".
If equally qualified, severely handicapped persons are given preference.
Please upload your application, including cover letter, curriculum vitae, certificates and description of previous professional activities electronically via the MBI online recruiting platform at http : / / www.mbi-berlin.de / de / jobs / index.html . Review of applications will begin in March 2025 and continue until the position is filled.
For further information about the project, please contact Dr. Bernd Schütte ( [email protected] ) or Prof. Marc Vrakking ( [email protected] ).
