**CHILLQUANTA
**Bochum, Germany (Ruhr University Bochum) | On-site / Hybrid | Co-Founder / Equity | Deep Tech / Quantum & Semiconductor Metrology
**About ChillQuanta
**ChillQuanta is developing an electro-optic spectrometer for inspecting and characterizing photonic qubits (semiconductor quantum-dot single- and entangled-photon sources), aiming to replace or combine today's separate methods (capacitance-voltage, photoluminescence, resonance fluorescence spectroscopy) with one new sub-100-femtosecond-resolution, non-destructive electro-optic technique — with a patent filing already in progress. Target market: quantum and semiconductor chip makers.
**The opportunity
**Founded by Amar Alok (CEO, PhD in Experimental Physics from RUB, 4+ years in ultrafast optics and pump-probe spectroscopy) alongside a Chemistry postdoc, ChillQuanta has a lab prototype (TRL 3-4) benchmarked against single-atom data, an Invention Disclosure accepted by RUB (April 2026) with a manuscript in preparation for Physical Review Letters, and over €12k raised so far. The next step is turning the lab prototype into an automated instrument and deciding between licensing and starting a company — which is where a business co-founder comes in. ChillQuanta is separately also open to an AI/ML co-founder to help build wafer-scale AI prediction capability.
Tasks
What you will own
Company build-up & strategy
- Help decide and execute the path from lab prototype to company: licensing vs. start-up, incorporation, and go-to-market strategy for the quantum/semiconductor metrology market.
- Own fundraising strategy and investor relations as ChillQuanta moves beyond its initial ~€12k raised.
Commercialization
- Turn the lab prototype (TRL 3-4) into an automated, sellable instrument in partnership with the technical team.
- Build relationships with semiconductor and quantum chip makers as early customers and design partners.
Business operations
- Establish the commercial and operational foundation (pricing, business model, partnerships) the founding science team doesn't yet have.
Requirements
**What you bring
**
**Core experience
**- Business development or MBA-level commercial experience, ideally with deep-tech, scientific instrumentation, or semiconductor/quantum industry exposure.
- Comfort making a licensing-vs-startup call and building a go-to-market plan from a lab-stage prototype.
**Especially valuable
**- Existing network in quantum technology, semiconductor metrology, or scientific instrumentation.
- Fundraising experience for deep-tech ventures (grants and/or investors).
- ChillQuanta is separately seeking an AI/ML co-founder to build wafer-scale AI prediction — relevant ML/software experience is valuable for that parallel track.
Benefits
Why join ChillQuanta
- A validated lab prototype (TRL 3-4) benchmarked against single-atom data, with an Invention Disclosure already accepted by RUB and a manuscript heading to Physical Review Letters.
- A genuinely novel technique (patent filing in progress) addressing a real gap in photonic-qubit inspection for the fast-growing quantum and semiconductor chip markets.
- Ground-floor business co-founder equity alongside a strong physics/chemistry founding team.
ChillQuanta welcomes co-founder candidates regardless of gender, age, ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, sexual identity, or any other characteristic. This is a search for the right partner to build the company with, not a conventional hire.
southwestX is a deep tech startup factory turning European research into scalable businesses. Rooted in Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate, we connect researchers, founders, companies and investors across Germany, France, Luxembourg and beyond. Our programs support the entrepreneurial journey from early ideas and market validation to international growth.
This page brings together two ways to get involved: join the southwestX team, or join researchers to build a new deep tech startup.
Join our startup factory.
Work with us to help researchers become founders, support ambitious startups and connect new technologies with industry. Our own vacancies offer the opportunity to help build the programs, partnerships and community that bring research-driven entrepreneurship to life.
Become a co-founder alongside researchers.
Discover scientific projects whose teams are looking for entrepreneurial partners to turn their technology into a business. We connect researchers with people who bring complementary business, technical or industry expertise—and the ambition to build a company together.
You do not need to arrive with your own startup idea. You can join a team developing a promising technology and help identify its market, shape its business model, win its first customers and build the venture.
These opportunities may involve forming a new company rather than joining an existing employer. The project stage, expected commitment, funding and compensation arrangements depend on the individual opportunity.
Whether you want to support founders or become one yourself, help us bring the next generation of European technologies from the lab to the market.
