Hauptaufgaben
CODING :
Assigns specific codes to medical records, sequencing and determining codes to accurately reflect the resources and procedures used in the care of the patients. Considerable judgment is used to relate appropriate diagnosis and treatment procedures to interpret, analyze and select correct codes. Ensures compliance with regulatory and third-party insurance requirements in utilizing the ICD-10-CM, PCS, CPT, and HCPCS LEVEL II coding books. Correlates operation codes with diagnosis codes to ensure the most descriptive code is selected when more than one anatomical location is involved. Codes complicated medical records having diagnostic, surgical and therapeutic procedures on specific DRGs that are identified as difficult to classify. Assures accurate coding of diseases, injuries, manifestations, operations, and nonsurgical procedures, both complicated and uncomplicated, in accordance with established guidelines and coding principles. Uses specialized procedures and methods to correct and amend records.
REVIEW AND ANALYSIS :
Performs quantitative analysis and checks medical record for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Ensures all required documentation is present and appropriate. Analyzes and interprets documentation in record, ensuring accuracy, internal consistency and correlation of recorded data and returns record to provider / area for correction / completion. Performs various functions involving review, analysis, evaluation, and management coding of diagnostic and treatment procedures contained in outpatient medical records with third party payers. Performs research and coordination to correct inconsistencies or discrepancies in the documentation Gathers and compiles various data and produces reports as needed. Performs limited utilization review of inpatient records to assure that the diagnosis responsible for the length of stay is appropriately identified and that the secondary diagnoses are sequenced properly to assure maximum allocation under the DRG system.
QUALITY ASSURANCE :
Identifies and documents any incident which may denote a potential compensatory event or questionable breach of quality of care delivered.
Performs other duties as assigned.

C-5 :
Basic Requirement : Knowledge of Medical Terminology and of basic medical records keeping.
E&T Level I : 2 years of general experience PLUS 1 year of job related experience as described below
Current employees who do not meet E&T Level I and who are not in the same or similar occupation, must have 2 years of creditable experience that included simple clerical work in an office or store, working with computers, bookkeeping, making and recording inventories, telephone marketing, arranging for events or as a cashier, etc.
E&T Level II : 1 year of general experience PLUS 1 year of job related experience as described below
E&T Level III A and IV A : No additional experience required, however, the completed apprenticeship must have been as a Doctor's Assistant, or in a commercial, business or administrative occupation, e.g. Industriekaufmann / frau, Kaufmann / frau im Gross und Einzelhandel, or in steuer- und wirtschaftsberatenden Berufen, Rechtsanwaltskanzleien, Banken or similar occupations.
E&T Level III B and C : No additional experience required.
E&T Level IV B and C : Not creditable for positions in this occupational series
E&T Level IV D and V : No additional experience required.
Internal placements : As an exception current employees in the same or similar occupational series who have served one year in their current position, are qualified for the next higher grade level.
General Experience : Experience which includes simple clerical work in an office or store or working with computers, as a cashier, bookkeeping, making and recording inventories, telephone marketing, arranging for events, etc
Job Related Experience : Experience that provided knowledge in the ambulatory medical record processes and methods, and in developing, maintaining, and monitoring special registries that assist physicians in the care and treatment of patients. The experience must demonstrate that relevance can be determined of many facts and conditions such as information contained in the record, legal and regulatory requirements, and other variables.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY LEVEL :
English AND German Language Proficiency Level B2 required.

- Experience with the use of common software and computer systems, carrying out routine office work (= Office Automation) is required.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology required.
- Medical Coding Certification is highly desired.
