Stellenbeschreibung

The Julius Kühn Institute (JKI) is an institution within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). You will strengthen the working group "New Genomic Techniques" in plants and the interdisciplinary research at the Institute for Biosafety in Plant Biotechnology as a researcher (postdoc). This includes in particular the research and evaluation of the use of advanced methods of gene editing and their potential areas of application, interdisciplinary networking, participation in scientific statements and advice within the governmental tasks of the JKI.

Activities and responsibilities You will

plan, organise and implement investigations employing new genomic techniques (genome editing) in plants;
investigate and evaluate the potential applications and impacts of new genomic techniques;
write scientific publications, research reports and present the results;
provide guidance to technical staff, Ph.D. students, etc;
provide statements on applications for the deliberate release of GMOs in accordance with the German Genetic Engineering Act (GenTG).

Qualification profile You have

a university degree with a focus on biotechnology, molecular biology or related disciplines;

experience with current techniques of genome editing in plants, e.g. as part of a doctorate or as a postdoc;

sound knowledge in the field of plant biotechnology, molecular biology and / or genetic engineering as well as the relevant methods including bioinformatic tools (e.g. CRISPR / Cas; protoplasty; sequence analyses);

strong communication and teamworking skills;

good organisational skills and you are able to work self-employed;

good written and oral language skills in German and English;

if possible, experience in raising third party project funds;

preferably background knowledge in agriculture and plant breeding;

if possible, a certificate of competence according to §28 GenTSV;

a class III (B) driving licence and the willingness to undertake business trips.
