Your role and responsibilities

Do you want to explore the field of Generative AI for Automation Engineering and support industrial research projects with your skills? Then join ABB, a global key player in industrial automation and smart electrification, as an intern or to write you master thesis. Apply your competence and grow personally in a challenging and fascinating environment. In ABB's Research Center in Mannheim Germany, we target innovating digital industries as well as sustainable electrification systems. We contribute to these goals with software architecture design, applying latest software technologies, and researching software tools for efficient automation engineering. Become a member of our team and be part of our research projects. The following tasks and responsibilities will be part of your role :

• Research on Generative AI, e.g., agentic workflows, chain-of-thought approaches, advanced retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and prompt engineering applied to the domain of industrial automation
• Find out capabilities and limitations of novel code generation methods by testing them in challenging industrial automation projects
• Prototypical implementation as a proof-of-concept (e.g., using Python, C#, LangChain, Azure)
• Systematic evaluation and documentation of results and learnings
