Project Description

As part of an innovative, interdisciplinary research project, we are developing a new technique for generating coherent double pulses at one of the world’s most powerful X-ray laser facilities. This approach combines cutting-edge laser and accelerator technology with questions from solid-state physics and biophysical dynamics. The resulting double pulses will be used to study dynamic processes in protein systems, with the aim of gaining time-resolved insights into fundamental biological mechanisms.

We are hiring :

The Faculty IV : School of Science and Technology, X-ray science group, in collaboration with the European XFEL and the accelerator division at Hamburg - DESY is seeking to fill the following researcher position  as soon as possible :

  • 100% = 39,83 hours
  • Pay grade 13  TV-L
  • limited fixed-term  3 Jahre
  • Place of employement : Hamburg – DESY / European XFEL

Your Responsibilities :

  • Planning and conducting double-pulse experiments at the European XFEL in close collaboration with DESY and the XFEL experimental team
  • Evaluation and analysis of complex scattering data from experiments and accelerator systems
  • Publication of scientific results in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at international conferences

    • Your profile :

  • Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Physics or Electrical Engineering with a final grade of “good” or better
  • PhD in Physics  or Electrical Engineering

    • Solid knowledge in one or more of the following areas :

  • Solid-state physics
  • Accelerator technology
  • X-ray detectors
  • Experience in scientific programming (e.g. Python)
  • Willingness to actively collaborate within an international research team Additional desirable qualifications :
  • Knowledge in protein dynamics / structural biology
  • Experience in laser technology
  • Understanding of control systems engineering
