Program Summary :
Kick-start your professional adventure in our R&D Excellence Centers by joining multiple expert teams in an international rotation program. Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements :
FPGA Engineer :
Key Responsibilities :
Design, develop, and document FPGA applications for digital signal processing, data processing, and specialized communication protocols.
Create and execute comprehensive test benches to validate FPGA design performance, functionality, and timing requirements.
Collaborate effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary design team including hardware, software, and system engineers.
Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and technical documentation processes to ensure quality deliverables.
Optimize FPGA designs for performance, power consumption, and resource utilization.
Debug and troubleshoot complex FPGA implementations using industry-standard tools and methodologies.
Support product development lifecycle from concept through production, including design verification and validation activities.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Optical Engineering or related technical field.
Minimum B2 in German.
Hands-on experience in FPGA design and development.
Proficiency in HDL languages (VHDL and / or Verilog).
Experience with FPGA development tools.
Strong understanding of digital signal processing concepts and implementation.
Knowledge of timing analysis, clock domain crossing, and FPGA architecture optimization.
Experience with simulation and verification tools.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience with high-speed serial interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, USB, etc.).
Knowledge of embedded processors and system-on-chip (SoC) architectures.
Familiarity with telecommunications and networking protocols.
Experience with version control systems and collaborative development processes.
AI Engineer :
Key Responsibilities :
This specific position is an early careers role in Generative AI and Data Science. VIAVI is building the next generation of agentic AI solutions for telecommunications, and we are seeking graduates who want to research, prototype, and productize innovative GenAI capabilities.
Required Qualifications :
Education : Undergrad or Graduate degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI / ML, or Computer Engineering with a software / AI focus.
Programming : Strong Python programming skills, including experience writing clean, maintainable, well-tested code in AI / ML projects.
GenAI Experience : Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and related APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face), plus frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or similar orchestration libraries.
Applied Experience : Hands-on exposure to GenAI through projects, hackathons, internships, or research.
Agentic AI : Understanding of how AI agents can be orchestrated, guided and controlled.
Ethics & AI Safety : Ability to apply ethical reasoning and safe practices when designing, prototyping, or testing AI solutions.
Collaboration : Ability to work effectively in agile, collaborative team environments with strong communication skills.
Adaptability : Capacity to learn new technologies quickly and pivot across diverse AI and data science problem spaces.
Related Skills : Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, SQL, and RDBMS are strongly desirable while Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, would be advantageous.
Hardware Engineer :
Key Responsibilities :
Development of fast digital hardware with bitrates up to 3.2 Tbit / s.
Circuit diagram creation and selection of components.
3D EM simulation of critical signal paths.
Selection of PCB material and determination of PCB layer stacks.
Support the layout team with the layout of critical signal paths.
Conception and implementation of heat dissipation concepts.
Functional testing and performance testing (design verification).
Required Qualifications :
Master's degree in electrical engineering, communications engineering, communications technology or a comparable field of study.
Flexibility, enthusiasm and not afraid of technical challenges.
Analytical, systematic and independent way of working.
