Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for the diagnosis of faulty vehicle and / or equipment operation and the performance of mechanical repairs covering several aspects of automotive and / or diesel systems OR an associate’s degree in automotive or diesel repair technology.

Substitution : Education as detailed below may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience.

1. Graduation from a technical or vocational program, such as , in automotive or diesel technology or automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for one year of experience.

2. Graduation from a one-year post high school certificate program in automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for up to two years of experience.

If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

Duties Description Duties include, but are not limited to :

• Diagnoses the cause of breakdowns and for performing major and minor mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs on self-propelled and non-self-propelled mowers, tractors, attachments, vehicles and equipment;
• Works on heavy and light trucks, bulldozers, excavators, compressors, rollers, various mowing equipment, and chain saws and other small-engine equipment;
• Performs routine preventive maintenance and vehicle safety inspections on a routine basis;
• Performs NYS vehicle inspections;
• Supervises and trains lower level or seasonal garage employees to ensure that instructions have been followed and the quality of work is satisfactory;
• Conducts inspections of facilities / equipment and makes recommendations for repairs or replacements;
• Operates light trucks, passenger vehicles, tractors and other equipment as required;
• Experience on gas or diesel engines, hydraulic systems, reel and blade maintenance, spray rig pumps and irrigation pumps preferred.
