Job Description
Join us as the Global Head of Environment and lead the charge in shaping our environmental strategy across 400+ factories worldwide. In this pivotal role, you'll ensure full compliance with regulations while driving efforts to reduce our environmental footprint and advance our sustainability goals. Working closely with senior leadership, you'll integrate environmental priorities into our corporate strategy, enhance our reputation in the construction chemicals industry, and oversee compliance, risk management, and continuous improvement in environmental performance.
This role can be based anywhere in Europe where Sika has its operation.
Strategic Leadership : Develop and implement a comprehensive environmental strategy aligned with the company’s overall business objectives considering the requirements as per the double materiality assessment. Provide strategic direction on environmental matters to the executive team and board of directors.
Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with all international, national, and local environmental laws and regulations across all facilities. Monitor and report on regulatory changes and their potential impact on the business. Support and take an active role in the implementation of CSRD and EU Taxonomy with regards to environmental matters.
Sustainability Initiatives : Lead the development and execution of sustainability programs aimed at reducing the company's carbon footprint, waste, and water usage. Promote the adoption of renewable energy sources and sustainable raw materials. Contribute to the TCFD and TNFD frameworks with related mitigation activities.
Environmental Management Systems (EMS) : Oversee the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 or equivalent environmental management systems across all sites. Ensure consistent application of EMS standards and practices globally. Coordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation, and renewable energy.
Risk Management : Identify and mitigate environmental risks associated with the company’s operations. Develop and implement emergency response plans for environmental incidents.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting : Establish KPIs and metrics to monitor environmental performance together with the ESG Controlling team. Prepare and present environmental performance reports to stakeholders, including investors, customers, and regulatory bodies.
Stakeholder Engagement : Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the community. Act as a champion for environmental issues within the organization and build up an internal network of experts.
Training and Development : Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on environmental policies, procedures, and best practices. Foster a culture of environmental responsibility and continuous improvement across the organization.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a relevant discipline is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven experience in global manufacturing or chemical industry.
- Proven track record of successfully managing environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives in a large, complex organization.
- In-depth knowledge of international environmental regulations and standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with senior management and cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with environmental management systems (ISO 14001) and sustainability reporting frameworks (GRI, CDP, CSRD, etc.).
- Understanding of environmental requirements under the CSRD and EU Taxonomy.
- Ability to travel 20% (globally).
