This position reports to

R&D Team Lead

Your role and responsibilities

As a R&D Senior Engineer, you contribute significantly to technology and product development projects by identifying and implementing innovative solutions in the area of medium voltage circuit breaker pole parts. Reporting to the R&D Team Manager for pole parts, you will contribute creative ideas to R&D projects, as well as proposing follow-up projects and activities based on new ideas.

  • Contributing to the development of new products and solutions in the field of medium voltage pole parts
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration with other ABB units as well as external partners in the framework of R&D projects
  • Preparation of development tests and type tests in close collaboration with certified test labs
  • Close cooperation with local industrialization and production during implementation of new products and optimizations
  • Conducting simulations for a variety of intricate problems related to pole parts and their use in medium voltage breakers and switchgear
  • Consulting for internal and external customers on problems related to the application and manufacturing of pole parts

Qualifications for the role

  • Higher degree in Electrical Engineering and proven experience in an R&D environment
  • In-depth knowledge in medium and high voltage as well as in electrical distribution network
  • Basic knowledge in manufacturing processes and plastic materials
  • Basic knowledge in the area of current interruption phenomena in medium voltage product range
  • Experience in CAD and simulation tools (e.g. SolidWorks)
  • Fluent in English and at least basic german skills
  • A solution-focused approach with hands-on mentality and interest in practical laboratory work
