Job description You will work in the Functional Microbiome Research Group at the Institute of Medical Microbiology of the University Hospital in Aachen. The lab operates a unique anaerobic cultivation platform that generates personalized collections of hundreds of gut microbes. You will work together with this team and make use of the personalized collections in gnotobiotic experiments to study effects on the host. You will also participate in and share responsibility for the existing Gnotobiotic Unit within the group, together with a full-time technician and a team of animal caretakers. In this role, you will be a very important lab member at the interface between our own group and the Institute of Laboratory Animal Sciences.
Your profile
You hold a PhD degree in Science. You must have experience working with mice (including a FELASA certificate or equivalent), preferably with gnotobiotic mice. You must also have a strong interest in working in the field of microbiology, and more specifically gut microbiomes. You are well-organized, and able to make decisions after seeking all possible sources of information. Teamwork is essential in the Gnotobiotic Unit, so you must have good communication skills and enjoy solving challenges in a team. Very good command of the English language (oral and written) is mandatory. Good knowledge of German (oral only) might be an advantage for efficient work in the animal facility.
