The Tomography Group at HZB works on state-of-the-art topics in the field of tomographic imaging techniques and their application to the investigation of energy relevant materials for batteries, fuel cells and electrolyzers for hydrogen production.
As a postdoctoral researcher in our group, you will be responsible for the three-dimensional structural investigation of battery electrodes using synchrotron / X-ray tomography and electron microscopy techniques.
In collaboration with several partner groups from research institutions and industry, you will study commercial and non-commercial batteries during cycling (operando / in-situ).
Your Tasks
- Investigating the 3D structure of battery electrodes using synchrotron tomography and electron microscopy.
- Preparing air-sensitive Li-containing materials for this purpose.
- Carrying out 3D analyses / evaluations with special 3D software.
- Quantifying 3D properties to investigate the correlation with performance characteristics.
- Presenting your results at project meetings, national and international conferences and publishing them in scientific journals and reports.
Your Profile
- Doctoral degree / PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science, or comparable qualifications
- Completed master’s degree or diploma in chemistry, physics, materials science, or comparable fields
- Good knowledge of scientific measurement and analysis techniques
- Knowledge of 3D imaging and analysis techniques advantageous
- Good publication record
- Very good command of English

Fixed term contract for 22 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
