Vision is a core component of today’s autonomous robots systems, enabling the robot to have a perception of the environment and interact with it. The main focus of this work is to create the vision pipeline for an assistive-robotics platform that will enable people with disabilities to perform activities of daily living.

The main parts of the vision module are :

  • Scene segmentation
  • Object pose recognition and estimation
  • Calibration of multi-camera setup

In this work, you will have the opportunity to work in state-of-the-art lab facilities of MIRMI, equipped with robots, data acquisition systems (EEG, EMG, motion capture etc), and mechanical / electrical workshops. To be excited and passionate about the research is a fundamental prerequisite. Furthermore, the possibility to write papers for high-impact conferences is an added plus.

Prerequisites

  • Strong background in the field of Computer Vision (scene segmentation, pose estimation)
  • Experience with established vision frameworks
  • Good Python programming skills
  • Good understanding of coordinate frames and 3D transformations
  • Helpful but not required

  • Knowledge on the state of the art methods for scene segmentation, pose estimation.
  • Experience with ROS2
  • Good C++ experience
  • Experience with robot manipulators (simulation or real robot)
  • Programming for real-time systems
  • Deep Learning
  • Position

    Current project is targeted as HiWi position (paid position).
