This position reports to

Chapter Leader

Your role and responsibilities

As R&D Engineer, you will drive new development and solutions of electromechanical and electronic switching devices in the Product Group Motor Starting and Safety based in Heidelberg Germany. Reporting to the Chapter Leader Electromechanical Design Module Control Products, you implement high demands of automated design for manufacturing of plastic and metallic parts with focus on needs for railway and electric vehicle applications. A highly motivated agile team of Engineers and Product Designers will welcome you to write ABBs future and commitment to our customers to increase their efficiency and sustainability.

  • Development and design of electromechanical components and assemblies for low voltage switching devices
  • Execute of feasibility studies, creation of product and solution concepts by applying simulation tools
  • Material analysis to maintain and follow up EN45545-2 certification
  • Validation plan creation as per ABB standardization requirements and coordination with laboratory team
  • Tolerance loop calculation
  • Risk assessment analysis
  • Coordinate implementation of different factories
  • Communicate with internal and external customers as well as suppliers to identify and follow up solutions and customizations

Qualifications for the role

  • Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics
  • Minimum 2 years experience in construction of injection molded plastic and punched metal parts
  • Experience with low voltage products and related standards desired
  • Knowledge in PTC Creo, Windchill PLM, MS Office and simulation tools preferable
  • Team player with communication skills to coordinate implementations with affected functions and manufacturing units
  • Capable to understand customer needs and translate into manufacturable solutions
  • Fluency in English and German
  • Willingness to occasional international traveling ~10%
