EMS Press is looking for a wellorganised detailoriented and motivated Software Developer to join our technology team on a parttime basis.

EMS Press is the publishing house of the European Mathematical Society and is based in Berlin Germany. Our program includes 26 journals and about 1520 new book titles per year with a backlist of over 250 books. We are expanding our role as a community publisher with innovative publishing products and services. Our emphasis is on fair and sustainable models for open access to maximise the impact of mathematics research.

Tasks

We are looking for a wellorganised detailoriented and motivated colleague for our technology team on a parttime basis. Within the technology team and reporting to the Head of Technology you will create and maintain multiple websites and services and collaborate on their codebases. This position is a midlevel role with responsibilities across the entire stack of web development with an emphasis on frontend technology.

Requirements

  • Multiyear experience with web technology and frontend frameworks
  • Attention to the appearance and accessibility of a userfacing product
  • Structured work with Git project management tools and thorough code reviews
  • Teamwork and good communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently and having a sense of responsibility and ownership for your projects
  • Professional communication in English

The role involves working with the following technologies and we appreciate candidates willing to learn the necessary skills on the job :

  • TypeScript NextJS HTTP APIs and relational databases
  • Mathematical typesetting in LaTeX
  • Academic publishing standards and infrastructure (JATS XML ONIX Crossref EPUB)
  • Containers Kubernetes Google Cloud infrastructure and GitOps
  • Assistive technologies (e.g. WCAG)
