Who we are ...
Our primary focuses at Fraunhofer IWES are on wind energy and hydrogen technologies. Our institute is home to more than 300 scientists and employees as well as over 100 students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development at nine sites. We secure investments in technological developments through validation, shorten innovation cycles, accelerate certification procedures, and increase planning accuracy by means of innovative measurement methods.

You will be part of the group »Wind Measurement Campaign Operations« at our site in Bremerhaven. Our common goal is the realization of innovative methods and procedures for wind measurement in projects in research and industry. In the process, our focus is on the transfer of innovation into practical applications in both the offshore and onshore sectors. One prime example of this is our Fraunhofer IWES FLS (Floating Lidar System). Working in close cooperation with industrial partners, we adapt measuring concepts and their implementation to suit future requirements. At present, the team consists of four research associates. We support each other irrespective of our projects and backgrounds. A culture of open exchange and cooperation, even beyond team boundaries and sites, are particularly important to us.
What you will do
These duties awaiting you ...
You will be involved in a variety of research- and development projects. In particular, you will take over the management of international wind measuring projects. This also includes planning the offshore deployments, primarily for our Fraunhofer IWES FLS. When doing so, you always keep a close eye on possible weather windows and ensure the customers’ requirements are met. You will be responsible for compiling the necessary documentation. You will take care of the communication with internal and external service providers and ensure that suitable vessels are available. When doing so, you will ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards as well as customs regulations. In addition, you will take care of the necessary documentation and reporting.
No two days are ever the same!
You will get actively involved by continuously optimizing internal processes, for example with regard to occupational health and safety regulations, quality, costs and output. In addition, you will be in constant exchange with the scientific and technical staff of the other groups in order to take all aspects of your work into consideration. Furthermore, you will help to win new industrial contracts for IWES.

What is your specialist background?
You have completed your diploma or master’s degree in the field of Natural Sciences or Engineering. Are you also aware of the usual challenges thanks to your years of experience in the wind industry? Have you already worked on wind measuring projects or perhaps even managed them yourself? Do you know your way around lidar buoys? We would be happy if you could apply your expertise here!

Have you already gathered experience in occupational health and safety and know what needs to be paid attention to? Do you know your way around MS Sharepoint? It would be great if you already have some experience in project acquisition or contract negotiations. But do not worry if you do not have all those skills just yet – you can continue your professional and personal development here. Here at IWES, we operate on an international level – a good command of German and English will make your day-to-day work easier. While daily communication in your group will be in German, you can also employ your fluent English in different projects.

The position is limited to 3 years. The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis, preferably close to full-time. Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.
