Job Summary The Division of Extension and Engagement is seeking a Small Farms Program Coordinator for Marion County. The work location is the Extension Marion County Office in Salem, Oregon. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
This Extension Agricultural Program Coordinator position is with the Division of Extension and Engagement’s (division) Extension Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources program and based at the OSU Extension Marion County office in Salem, Oregon. This professional faculty member reports to the Regional Director assigned to the Western Region.
In the heart of the Willamette Valley, the climate, soils, proximity to metropolitan areas, and growing population make Marion County a crucial contributor to the state’s agricultural health. The Agriculture Program Coordinator plans, organizes, coordinates, evaluates and participates in the Small Farms and Natural Resources education programs in Marion County. In collaboration with OSU Extension employees, this Coordinator plans, monitors, reports performance against program goals and objectives, ensures program results, and interacts with internal and external program or project stakeholders to build program support.
This position is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and / or carrying out educational programs and outreach activities to serve broad and diverse populations in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with civil rights and language / visual access regulations.
OSU is committed to practicing and delivery of tools for state-of-the-science interaction and engagement of partners and stakeholders. This professional faculty member is required to use modern learning and outreach tools including online and hybrid classes, multimedia and digital communications, employ and practice engaged scholarship, promote integration of programs across disciplines that are demand-driven and use open-source tools that continually align with innovation and shifts in educational program delivery. These activities will be included in the annual plan of work, impact statements, and summary of accomplishments / achievements.

Key Responsibilities 45% – Program coordination and outreach
Provide logistical and other non-credit program delivery and evaluation support for workshops, classes, farm tours, and other educational events for small farms and natural resources events. This will require driving / traveling to provide this support and to participate in the Small Farms and Natural Resources education programs throughout Marion County.Share program evaluation data with stakeholders and decision makers. Prepare monthly and / or quarterly narratives for newsletter, reports, and year-end statistical reports as required.Develop and maintain record keeping systems for outreach purposes including email lists, communications, contact information, program and regional statistics, and schedule. Maintain regional stakeholders and participants’ database.Promote and market small farms and natural resource non-credit educational programs using mixed-media in conjunction with volunteers and other employees, such as generating news releases and other advertising for events, volunteer correspondence and telephone contacts.Develop local marketing tools for the small farms and natural resources programs, including website content, social media and newsletters. Contribute to local Extension newsletters as well as Small Farms, Extension, and Ag newsletters as appropriate. Contribute to the statewide OSU small farms website.Assist small farms academic and professional faculty with program level output using the overall OSU Extension and university brands in all opportunities.Provide community and statewide opinion leaders and decision makers with the understanding and context of how your program level Extension work relates to the overall Extension programming output.Keep track of and analyze program evaluations, and annually provide impact statement reports adhering to Extension criteria.Conduct and coordinate local pesticide recertification efforts for stakeholders as well as answer any pesticide related questions from the public.Maintain Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide Consultant License throughout employment to stay up-to-date with the science of pesticides and answer pesticide related questions.45% – Education outreach
Assist with the revision of existing and / or development of new non-credit programming, outreach materials and publications for OSU Extension.Assist with the development of non-credit teaching materials for clientele, including presentations, handouts and hands-on learning opportunities in collaboration with small farms academic and professional faculty. Contribute to and prepare program related reports and evaluations that measure and document impacts.Create accessible and inclusive environments that make space for a range of learner needs and provide reasonable accommodations.With sufficient training and / or expertise, answer technical questions and deliver presentations at workshops and seminars in Marion County, and occasionally regionally in collaboration with other OSU employees.Collaborate with OSU employees to identify and engage local partners, clientele and underserved populations in needs assessments to aid in the design and delivery of programs.Collaborate on appropriate program related research projects including the planning of new research, based on the needs of local farmers, and reporting findings in a useful and meaningful way to provide education to the intended audience.Assist small farms employees with organizing and maintaining program advisory and management committees and / or networks to identify program needs, make recommendations, assist in program implementation, and evaluate program effectiveness.5% – Organizational accountability
Use technology as a tool to increase the reach and impact of program delivery on constituents including participating with Ask Extension.Use multiple methods of digital communication tools to collaborate internally and externally as appropriate.Follow OSU and division brand guidelines, digital publishing standards and digital contact management data integrity practices for programmatic communications, marketing and engagement.Assist with identifying and implementing fee-based programming and cost-recovery practices, develop partnerships, and solicit external funding to support and enhance educational programs as appropriate.Develop an annual plan of work addressing educational needs as well as evaluate the quality and impact of educational programs provided to audiences as appropriate. Assist with linking program level output with the overall OSU Extension, and university brand in all opportunities.Assist with providing community and statewide opinion leaders and decision makers the understanding and context on how your program level Extension work relates to overall Extension programming output. Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, natural resources, communications, marketing or a field relevant to the position.Experience and / or familiarity working with agronomic / horticultural crops in organic and / or conventional production systems, preferably in the Willamette Valley or similar climatic area. This may involve but it’s not limited to the following : crop planning, field production practices, pest control, regulatory practices and compliance, small farm management and product commercialization.Experience working in an educational setting.Experience with non-credit program delivery, planning, organization, coordination, and implementation.Must have or be able to obtain an Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide Consultant License within six months of employment and maintain it throughout employment in this position.A commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming.Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, with ability to communicate successfully with a broad and diverse audience in a culturally responsible manner.Demonstrated ability to work as a team member with other professionals and volunteers.General knowledge and ability to use computers, including proficiency with information technology, professional office software (i.e., Microsoft Office suite) and collaborative work platforms.Ability to learn and adapt to using multiple forms of digital communication systems, including websites, email newsletters, social media, and other tools in a changing technological environment.
