Student Support Specialist

MAJOR FUNCTION

: The Student Support Specialist is housed on main campus in the Registrar office and will report to the Director of the College Registrar.This is independent, complex, and highly specialized clerical work in the Student Records and Enrollment Services Office

Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Processes and scan incoming admission documents as well as enrollment and registration documents such as Personal Information Change and Change of Program, Permission to Release Records, Request to Prevent Disclosure of Directory Information forms. Post received transcripts to students’ account and manage student holds.

• Troubleshoots problem enrollment and degree verification requests from the National Student Clearinghouse. Serve on the Residency Reclassification Committee.

• Supports the departmental goals and objectives and perform other related tasks upon request of a supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of TCC policies and procedures. Knowledge of TCC and Admissions and Records policies, procedures, and protocol. Knowledge of the Family Rights and Privacy Act. Knowledge of personal computers and printers. Knowledge of appropriate letter and memorandum formats. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook, particularly Word and Excel. Ability to handle a multi-line telephone. Ability to manage, organize, and to coordinate work assignments. Ability to coordinate and provide training for office support staff. Ability to organize and enter data and perform basic data analysis. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work with a team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work with users of varying technical expertise. Ability to communicate information accurately and effectively. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate multiple work assignments. Ability to make independent judgments. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Ability to file, organize, and retrieve computerized and paper records. Ability to use the keyboard for long periods of time. Ability to operate a personal computer to access, retrieve, and input information. Ability to demonstrate proper telephone etiquette. Skill in typing with accuracy, speed on a personal computer. Skill in operating personal computer software for word processing and spreadsheets. Skill in handling confidential materials.
