Role Overview for Legal Counsel

Wondering what your day-to-day could look like as our new Legal Counsel? In this role, you’ll play a key part supporting its rapidly growing utility-scale energy storage business unit. You’ll report to our Legal Director, focus on project contracts – including EPC contracts, equipment supply contracts, BESS Integrator contracts, long-term service contracts, warranties, and performance guarantees – but will also include a variety of other matters. The ideal candidate will be a confident self-starter with strong interpersonal and organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively provide sound legal advice, exercise good business judgment, and work with senior management, outside counsel and customers.

What You’ll Be Doing as a Legal Counsel

  • Provide legal advice on construction, corporate and commercial law matters in support of the energy storage business unit in EMEA.
  • Negotiate and draft EPC agreements, equipment supply agreements, subcontractor agreements, long-term services agreements, operation and maintenance agreements, product warranties, performance guarantees and various other contracts.
  • Assist with all aspects of project management and project execution, including drafting legal notices, changing orders, interpreting contract language and providing strategic and business-oriented advice.
  • Litigation and dispute resolution management.
  • Coordinate and supervise outside counsel with a view to balancing legal costs with business goals.
  • Team up with talented colleagues and partners to achieve project goals.
  • Champion our standards for quality, safety, and sustainability.

  • Strong academic credentials and licensed to practice law in Germany.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating construction and infrastructure contracts at a top-tier law firm and / or in-house legal department.
  • Experience working in the energy industry (ideally in renewable energy and / or energy storage) is preferred.
  • Experience and willingness to lead negotiations of complex commercial contracts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work cooperatively within a dynamic team of motivated individuals.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with large amounts of responsibility and ownership.
  • Strong project management, organizational, research and analytical skills.
  • Strong drafting and negotiating experience.
  • Estimated travel requirements : 5-15 %
