Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage data science projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.
- Develop and maintain data models, algorithms, and reporting systems to support data analysis and decision-making.
- Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and provide actionable insights.
- Ensure data quality and integrity through regular audits and validation processes.
- Mentor and guide junior data scientists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
1. Data & Risk Analytics
- Lead hands-on analysis using SQL, Python, and BI tools across large-scale payments datasets
- Design, build, and maintain scalable dashboards to monitor payments risk
- Develop and own KRIs/KPIs frameworks across European payment flows
- Ensure data integrity, consistency, and governance alignment across reporting and analytics outputs
- Establish and apply best practices in data analysis, visualization, and reporting
2. Payments Risk Monitoring & Diagnostics
- Conduct deep-dive analyses to identify anomalies, emerging risks, and systemic issues
- Perform root cause analysis on payment issues (e.g., bank returns, delays, processing failures)
- Quantify risk exposure and assess impact using transaction-level data
- Proactively surface and escalate key risk insights to stakeholders
4. SEPA & Payments Domain Expertise
- Develop strong expertise in PayPal payments
- Analyze SEPA data to detect trends, inefficiencies, and scheme-related risks
- Extend analytics beyond SEPA to other payment methods, channels, and infrastructure components
- Support data-driven engagement with banking partners, schemes, and internal stakeholders
5. Risk Governance & Oversight- Contribute to and help drive risk governance activities, including: Risk reporting and dashboards, Governance forums and risk reviews, Thematic analyses and control assessments
- Support identification of control gaps and drive data-backed recommendations for remediation
- Partner with first-line teams to validate fixes and ensure sustainable issue resolution
- Enhance risk monitoring frameworks and analytics-driven oversight capabilities
What You Bring
Core Experience
- "Fluency in both German and English is required, with full professional proficiency in spoken and written German."
- 5+ years in payments / fintech / financial services
- Proven experience in payments risk, oversight, or financial operations environments
- Experience with SEPA schemes and European payments ecosystem preferred
Technical & Domain Skills
- Advanced proficiency in:
- SQL (complex querying, data modeling)
- Python (data analysis, automation)
- BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker, etc.)
- Experience building dashboards, data pipelines, and scalable analytics solutions
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., BigQuery) is a plus
