Dear Network,

For an international technology client, we are currently seeking an experienced Senior Observability & Telemetry Engineer (.NET) (m/f/d) to support the ongoing modernization and scaling of their global observability ecosystem.
The core focus of this engagement is end-to-end OpenTelemetry instrumentation across production systems, alongside optimizing modern tracing, telemetry, and monitoring practices across distributed architecture.

Project Details:
Position: Freelance Senior Observability & Telemetry Engineer (.NET) (m/f/d)
Start Date: September (01.09.)
Duration: Initial contract through December 31st (total engagement planned for approx. 12 months)
Location: Remote-first, with occasional on-site presence, plus international travel readiness
Workload: Full-time
Project Language: Professional English (must), German is a strong plus

Responsibilities:
- End-to-end OpenTelemetry instrumentation of production .NET systems, including bridging existing NLog logging into OpenTelemetry with trace correlation
- Creating single end-to-end traces spanning JavaScript frontends through C# backends to the database
- Operating and optimizing production observability stacks (Datadog APM, trace explorer, dashboards, monitors, Application Insights, and Grafana)
- Designing head-versus-tail sampling strategies while considering cost trade-offs, cardinality awareness, and semantic conventions
- Designing and routing Strangler Fig facades against OpenAPI contracts for gradual system modernization

Requirements:
- Proven track record of end-to-end OpenTelemetry instrumentation in production .NET environments
- Hands-on experience operating Application Insights, Datadog (APM, dashboards, monitors), and Grafana stacks in production
- Deep understanding of sampling strategies (head vs. tail) with articulated cost trade-offs and cardinality management
- Practical experience applying the Strangler Fig pattern for legacy modernizations
- Professional fluency in English (written and spoken)
- Willingness to travel internationally

Nice-to-Have:
- Good German language skills
- EU-based residence preferred
