Hauptaufgaben
• Independently performs complex micro- and molecular biological tests to detect foodborne pathogens (e.g., Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli) and executes critical quality control, media preparation, and routine maintenance of standard lab equipment.
• Vector-Borne Disease Analysis: Conducts advanced molecular assays and automated nucleic acid extractions to identify high-consequence vector-borne pathogens, including West Nile Virus, Dengue Virus, and Tick-borne encephalitis.
• Technical Leadership & Method Development: Provides technical guidance to laboratory personnel, reviews work in progress, troubleshoots complex instrumentation, and assists in validating new analytical methods and writing SOPs.
• Rabies Diagnostics: Manages the reception, logging, and preparation of suspect rabies submissions, executing direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) testing and specialized PCR assays.
• LIMS & Data Integrity: Accurately maintains laboratory records by entering all test results, quality control data, and consumables management info into the computerized LIMS.
• Quality Assurance & Safety: Strictly adheres to Biological Analysis Division (BAD) accreditation standards, participates in mandatory proficiency testing programs, and proactively establishes laboratory safety safeguards.
Qualifikationsanforderungen
Basic requirement:
Completed vocational training in a field closely related to the position. E.g. Biologielaborant/in (m/w/d), Medizinischer Technologe fuer Laboratoriumsanalytik (MTL) (m/w/d), Biologisch-technische/r Assistent/in (BTA) (m/w/d) or similar.
E&T Level I: not creditable for positions in this occupational series.
E&T Level II: 2 years of experience as defined in B below.
E&T Level III: 1 year of experience as defined in B below.
E&T Level IV: No additional experience required.
Current employees who have served one year in the same or similar occupation are qualified for the next higher grade.
Experience B: Experience in the same or similar line of work as the job for which considered. The experience must demonstrate that the applicant
possesses the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required in the position. The predominant experience must have been gained at a comparable level of difficulty to the position to be filled. The amount of the higher level experience must be in a reasonable relation to the required total number of years.

• This is a temporary position until return of permanent incumbent, NTE 2 years.
• Incumbent must be able to meet the requirements for certification as fully proficient in all laboratory procedures performed after appropriate training.
• Incumbent must be able to wear personal protective equipment and perform standard and specialized laboratory procedures, use aseptic technique and work with human pathogenic bacteria and other pathogenic agents.
• Rabies vaccination is recommended but must be able to demonstrate a current protective rabies titer before working with suspect rabies samples.
• In order to handle emergency samples, work on weekends and after-duty hours might be required.
• Applicant must be in the possession of a valid driver's license class B and must be able to obtain/maintain a military motor vehicle operator's license.
• Office automation skills required.
• English Language Proficiency level B2 AND German Language Proficiency level B2 required.
