Your mission

Ucaneo is building Germany's first integrated Direct Air Capture facility, removing CO₂ from the atmosphere using an electrochemical process. As Senior Electrochemical Engineer, you'll be the technical authority on our BPMED (Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis) stack — owning it end-to-end, from first-principles modelling to the system-design innovations that define how this technology performs at industrial scale. You'll sit at the intersection of fundamental electrochemistry and industrial engineering — turning early-stage stack concepts into designs that hold up at commercial scale in our next-generation Berlin plant.

Key points
Own and advance first-principles BPMED stack models that inform scale-up decisions for our Berlin pilot and commercial plant.

• Conceive and execute original design innovations to push stack performance boundaries.

• Turn experimental data into predictive tools that accelerate scale-up timelines.

• Lead key supplier and research-institute partnerships that bring outside expertise into our stack development.

• Mentor and build a lean electrochemical engineering team as we grow from pilot to industrial scale.

Your profile

Skills & Experience

• Master's or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Electrochemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field.
• 5+ years in an industrial electrochemical environment (ED/BPMED, chlor-alkali, desalination, large-scale electrolysis).
• Hands-on engineering experience taking designs from concept through to industrial-scale implementation.
• Demonstrated track record of innovation — novel stack designs, process improvements, or performance breakthroughs in a real-world setting.
• Experience working with hardware suppliers, research institutes, or industrial consortia.

We are an early startup with a big vision - remove 500 million tons of global CO2 emissions from the air by 2035 through Direct Air Capture, roughly the same weight as all humans on earth combined!

To meet our climate targets the reduction of CO2 emissions is not enough, the world actively has to remove billions of tons of CO2 from our atmosphere. To achieve that we at Ucaneo develop an innovative electrochemical Direct Air Capture technology mimicking the human lung to remove CO2 from ambient air.

We are a science and mission-driven team, fast-moving with a break-or-make attitude. Our office and industrial hall is located at Schwarze-Pumpe-Weg 16, 12681 Berlin including a large outdoor area to build one of the largest industrial DAC plants in Germany.
