Our salary range is based on the current salary scales defined in our works agreement. The placement on the scale is evaluated according to the years of relevant experience after full qualification.

Your Responsibility

Qualities of the Learning Support Teacher will include:

Your duties

• Must be in school during working hours as specified in the BIS Staff Working Agreement.
• Serves as main caseworker for students identified as being on the learning support roster for learning support teacher's assigned grade levels.
• Assesses students formally and informally including classroom observations, which results in assessment reports, circulation of relevant findings, meetings with parents and teachers, designing of IEPs and monitoring further recommendations.
• Administers extended times accommodations, standardized assessments and/or mock exams as required by the school.
• Communicates with other professionals such as speech therapists, psychologists and occupational therapists.
• Teaches individual students and small groups of students using appropriate and motivating materials including assistive technology, evidence-based learning support intervention and curriculum support. Student contact based on need and as pull out or in class support.
• Provides on-going, timely feedback (academic progress, social/personal, etc.) to individual students.
• Provides a point of contact for teachers to discuss students with learning challenges.
• Provides regular opportunities to liaise with parents and class teachers to discuss student progress.
• Assists classroom and single subject teachers to implement modifications in work tasks to better match the needs of all learners.
• Attends faculty meetings, in-service meetings, grade level meetings, or department meetings as required under the BIS Staff Working Agreement.
• Coordinates meetings between groups of teachers to discuss students with learning or behavioural concerns.
• Collaborates as part of the ‘Student Support Service’ team to discuss students and review the quality of the services offered at BIS.
• Establishes and maintains positive relationships with students and parents.
• Establishes and maintains expectations of student behaviour in and out of the classroom to create a well-functioning learning atmosphere in the school.
• Contributes to the wider school curriculum through active involvement in after-school activities, field trips, overnight trips, etc.
• Maintains professional competence by pursuing professional development opportunities both internally and externally and by engaging in the BIS appraisal process.
• Models the values and professional demeanour as expressed in the BIS Code of Professional Conduct and the BIS Standards of Teaching Excellence.

Your profile

• Education: An appropriate college or university degree from an accredited higher education institute is a must; preferably a master's degree in special education or educational psychology.
• Certification: Up-to-date credential required for the assigned teaching position. This credential must be issued by a national or state certification board or its equivalent, and this credential must be responsible for filing appropriate documentation with Human Resources.
• Experience: A minimum of five years of special education/learning support teaching experience in a diverse setting.
