What You Can Accomplish with Us

In your role as an IT Cybersecurity Expert, you will work in the Security Operations Center (SOC) of the Munich Fire Department. This team is responsible for the operational protection of critical IT infrastructure and is therefore of central importance for threat prevention and disaster response in the state capital of Munich. At the SOC, you will be responsible for both analyzing security events and further developing the security infrastructure within the fire department and disaster management network.

Your task is to use the SIEM to evaluate reported incidents, determine their severity, and assess their impact on the entire network. You will be actively involved in incident response, implement containment measures, and advise the affected teams at the data center. With your experience and knowledge, you will contribute to the design, configuration, and optimization of IT security systems. This includes, for example, adapting firewall rules to new requirements, implementing additional security mechanisms (e.g., multi-factor authentication, zero-trust approaches), or integrating new monitoring and analysis tools into the SOC environment.

What You Bring to the Table

• a career qualification for the third qualification level of the specialized career track in Natural Sciences and Technology, with a focus on administrative informatics, or
• a career qualification for the third qualification level of the specialized career path in Administration and Finance with many years (at least three years) of professional experience in the IT field, or
• a successfully completed college degree in Computer Science, Administrative Informatics, Business Informatics, or a comparable field, or
• successful completion of the municipal IT-Q qualification program, or
• a successfully completed college degree with extensive (at least three years) professional experience in the IT field* or
• a successfully passed Specialist Examination II with extensive (at least three years) professional experience in the IT field* or
• equivalent skills and experience based on a completed college degree in Computer Science, Public Administration Information Systems, or Business Information Systems* with extensive (at least three years) practical experience in the IT field

• extensive (at least three years) professional experience in the IT field

*In this case, the assessment of equivalent skills and experience as defined by the TVöD pay scale is conducted by the City of Munich.

• Technical expertise: practical experience with firewalls (e.g., Fortinet), practical experience with SIEM solutions (e.g., Elasticsearch, Splunk)

• The following are advantageous: Certifications in networking, security infrastructure, and security operations (e.g., CCNA, NSE, CEH); completed cybersecurity projects (including in home lab environments or on online platforms such as TryHackMe, HackTheBox, RootMe), practical knowledge of distributed IT systems and large IT infrastructures, and knowledge of the structure of a municipal fire department

The position to be filled involves security-sensitive activities. If selected, a successful security clearance in accordance with Art. 9 of the Bavarian Security Clearance Act (BaySÜG) is a mandatory prerequisite for employment.
