Catholic Mass Music DirectorThe successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music MinistryInternational and be responsible for the following : 1. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES : Music Director shall provide labor and management to support the 0900 and / or 1300 Sunday Catholic Mass. Directorship includes, but is not limited to playing, training, scheduling, cantoring, and processing music for liturgies within the Catholic Mass in collaboration with the Chaplain. Music Director consults, coordinates with and is monitored by the Resources and Requirements Branch Chief or designee here in called “Branch Chief” and the Chaplain assigned to the Director here in called “Chaplain.”2. WORK HOURS : 2.1. Times for performance may vary throughout the week. Unless directed otherwise and approved by the Chaplain or designee, normal hours of performance shall be limited to service specific requirements such as the Catholic Service, rehearsals,and special services.2.2. Arrive at least 60 minutes prior to the beginning of worship services and special services, and 15 minutes prior to the beginning of each rehearsal. Any time spent immediately prior to the worship service or event is considered part of the worship service, and not a separate rehearsal.2.3. The length of the rehearsals shall be a minimum of one (1) hour, not to exceed three (3) hours. Any time spent immediately prior to the worship service or event is considered part of the worship service, and not a separate rehearsal.3. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : 3.1. Have 2 or more years of college in music (or related field), or equivalent years of related experience in a chapel / church setting.3.2. Be able to sing and vocally lead congregation in choral music in keeping with the liturgical norms of the Roman Catholic Church.3.3. Demonstrate proficiency in the reading and interpretation of vocal and instrumental scores to include Gregorian Chant, traditional hymns and appropriate contemporary music. The use of Latin will conform to standard ecclesiastical pronunciation.3.4. Demonstrate a familiarity with and knowledge of Catholic Faith and Liturgical needs and practices, as articulated by the documents of the Second VaticanCouncil, papal pronouncements, and subsequent statements of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).4. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES : 4.1. Have overall musical directorship to include but not limited to recruitment of members, rehearsals, and choir direction, for the 0900 and / or 1300 Sunday Catholic Mass at Ramstein Air Base Chapel and additional services at other times and locations at the direction of the Chaplain.4.2. Collaborate musical selections with the Chaplain and the 0900 and / or 1300 Sunday Catholic Mass Music Accompanist.4.3. Lead the choir and congregation as cantor in worship and vocally lead as required by the Chaplain and train other choir members to do so.4.4. Sing music from a religious music, ecclesiastical, or suitable type publication resource consistent with the nature of the Catholic Mass.4.5. Provide arranged, improved, and scored music as appropriate for compatibility with the type of Mass or other functions of the Chaplain’s program at which it was rendered.4.6. Be present for rehearsals, services and special services. Special services include but are not limited to : Memorial services, Funeral services, combined services, faith specific holidays, and occasional support for special events.4.7. Conduct one weekly rehearsal with choir members at an appropriate time to allow for maximum participation amongst its members. Rehearsals shall be held separate from the 60 minute window prior to services and special services.4.8. Provide the Ranking Catholic Chaplain or his designee with a written plan of music for the Liturgical Year, including Holy Days and special celebrations. This may be done in installments but will be submitted no less than four weeks in advance of the first day of the season or period in question.4.9. Return any and all government owned music scores and equipment obtained in the performance of the required duties following the last service provided under the contract.4.10. Not engage in the unauthorized duplication of copyrighted materials by photocopying or any other means that would expose the government to liability for penalties under existing or future copyright laws.4.11.
