Compute Infrastructure Team Lead
Conexus are partnered with a leading utilities company on a long-term project to support the development of their new internal platform.
On that basis, we are searching for a Infrastructure Compute Team Lead to join on a freelance basis. This position is primarily remote, with occasional visits to their site in Berlin.
Please note, we can only consider candidates with C1 German and English.
Key Responsibilities :
- Act as the technical expert, translating high-level architecture into actionable implementation steps for the team, in collaboration with the Compute / IaaS architect.
- Manage and guide the compute engineering team, tracking progress, identifying risks, and ensuring tasks align with project timelines.
- Lead the team in adopting and implementing Agile practices, driving continuous improvement in processes and delivery.
- Foster open communication within the team and with external stakeholders, ensuring seamless integration and execution of project goals.
- Partner with the Product Owner and Delivery Lead to develop and execute strategies for the ongoing evolution of the platform.
Technical Focus Areas :
- Lifecycle management of Dell and HPE compute hardware
- OS provisioning and maintenance (RHEL, Ubuntu, etc.)
- Security hardening and automated OS customization
- End-to-end automation of provisioning processes (Ansible, Terraform, Python)
- Virtualized resource provisioning (VMware, KVM, ESXi)
- Integration of network services from other departments
Qualifications :
- 5+ years of experience as a Compute or Virtualization Engineer
- Proven leadership and team management experience
- Strong communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable plans
- Hands-on experience with hardware provisioning, Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu), VMware, and automation tools
- Fluent in English and German (C1 level or above)
Preferred Skills :
- Experience with Ubuntu, LDAP, OAuth, PKI certificates, and CIS hardening
- Familiarity with tools like Jira, Confluence, Miro, and common applications such as Apache Webserver, Nginx, PostgreSQL, Gitlab
