Job Purpose

The Aldi Business Development Director is McBride’s lead commercial & business development representative towards the Global Aldi Group.

The purpose of this role is to lead & coordinate all aspects of the relation with Aldi, both short & Long-term, both tactical and strategic. The Aldi BDD will initially lead a virtual team including key account managers, sales coordinators, and assigned team members from the technical, marketing, finance, logistics & Customer Xperience organizations.

The virtual team leadership is foreseen to evolve into a combination of direct reports and indirect team members.

The Aldi Business Development Director is our senior point of contact towards the Global procurement team and is assisted where needed by his / her manager, other divisional MDs and at times by the CEO as well. He / she is internally the main contact and source of knowledge on the Aldi Group.

Your responsibilities will be

  • Builds and leads McBride’s cross functional (account) team that interacts with Aldi. Implements an appropriate meeting & review structure to support this, fosters transparency and ensures all stakeholders are kept up to date through effective reporting & verbal communication.
  • Negotiates an overall multi-year contract framework on behalf of the McBride Group supported by the account teams covering all regions & divisions. Leads recurring price negotiations while making smart trade-off between regions, categories and divisions. Supports negotiations of the local account teams where needed. Creates transparency & consistency across the countries and internal stakeholders.
  • Builds understanding of the Aldi group such as their organization, ways of working, growth strategy, Aldi’s approach to sustainability, and in general what is important to Aldi. The BDD for Aldi shares the Aldi know how with the wider McBride team and creates the conditions for our team members to realize optimal success when interacting with Aldi.
  • Builds & maintains a network of contacts within the Aldi group, multi-level and across functions. Creates the right linkages between McBride and Aldi staff. Ensures McBride is “present” at Aldi and has personal presence at Aldi Global Sourcing and in the various regions. Is the vocal point of contact for Aldi GS (sr.) management.
  • Creates a multi-year strategic account plan towards the Aldi group, detailing our growth & innovation objectives and initiatives per region & category with the goal to be Aldi’s leading global homecare supplier.
  • Oversees and expands our growth project pipeline at Aldi; ensures McBride’s team can anticipate upcoming tenders to maximize success. Grows McBride’s team understanding of what is important to Aldi. Coordinates positioning of McBride’s innovations.
  • Creates an efficient KPI framework to track revenue and margin development, as well as our progress against operational excellence KPIs (e.g. service, past dues, logistics cost, forecasting accuracy) and implements metrics that track our sustainability performance.
  • Coordinates McBride’s efforts towards Aldi’s Optimization initiatives.  these will include a wide range of (complex) initiatives such as portfolio optimization, new capacity & capability build, logistics & warehousing cost reduction, development of new sustainable offerings and geographical expansion.

Skills and education we are looking for

  • Understands FMCG and retail markets.
  • Has or has ability to build strong portfolio understanding :

  • Technical depth
  • A broad overall skills-set covering :
  • Able to build a multi-year strategic business plan.

  • Financial understanding (margin management, investment cases)
  • Contract formulation
  • Logistics & supply chain process understanding
  • Project & change Management (planning, resource management, change)
  • Basic SAP understanding
  • Sustainability & regulatory
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business or relevant Technical field
  • FMCG experience
  • 10+ years of Business-to-business commercial work experience at senior level
  • Multi-year experience in managing large customer accounts with strong growth record.
  • Successful team leadership experiences through-out career
  • Ideally has successfully completed cross functional assignment(s) beyond sales (e.g Marketing, Production Management, procurement, logistics)
  • Must be willing to travel frequently though-out Europe and trice per year to the USA & Asia
  • English language skill (German language skill is not mandatory, but a benefit)
  • Location is flexible … UK, Germany are preferred locations

  • Demonstrates high level of Emotional intelligence ie the ability to recognise, understand, and manage emotions effectively, both in oneself and in others
