Research assistant in process modeling
The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is Europe's leading center for contract research and development in the field of laser technology and laser processes.
One focus of the Data Science and Metrology department is the comprehensive modeling of laser-material interaction in laser material processing.
The Data Science and Metrology department consists of an interdisciplinary team that works closely together in the Process Sensors and Systems Engineering , Materials Analysis and Computational Methods groups.
The Computational Methods group focuses on the design, modeling and simulation of laser beam sources, laser systems and processes in laser material processing, using both classical methods and modern approaches such as artificial intelligence and quantum algorithms.
To strengthen the team, we are looking for a research assistant whose main task will be the content-related and strategic further development of the modeling and simulation of processes in laser material processing in close cooperation with Business Development .
What you will do
- You will work independently on publicly funded projects with industry participation in the field of laser-material interaction modeling
- You will also support the acquisition of publicly funded projects and bilateral industry projects
- In close cooperation with the Business Development department, you will analyze research markets in laser material processing and develop strategies to open them up
- Presenting results to customers and at national and international conferences is part of your remit
- The supervision of scientific theses is also part of your activities
What you bring to the table
- You have a university degree in physics, electrical engineering or a comparable course of study
- A completed doctorate in an engineering or scientific subject is advantageous
- You are characterized by initiative and the ability to familiarize yourself quickly and flexibly with new topics
- You already have initial experience in the areas of modeling, programming, numerics, process simulation as well as in the acquisition of publicly funded projects and the writing of research proposals
- Very good German and English skills round off your profile

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD).

The weekly working time is 39 hours.
This position is also available on a part-time basis.
The position is initially limited to two years.
