Technical Assistant for Marine Aquaculture in the Open Ocean (OLAMUR) (m / d / f)BackgroundOLAMUR : Offshore Low-trophic Aquaculture in Multi-Use scenario RealisationGlobal food security, human health, and well-being are at serious risk as marine resource production can no longer rely solely on ecosystems and natural fisheries. There is extensive evidence that low-trophic aquatic food has the potential to address food and nutrition insecurity in the face of a changing climate. It can also provide essential ecosystem services and support achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Expanding low trophic aquaculture (LTA) offers opportunities in unexploited regions and environments, while also promoting efficient use of marine space. This includes concepts like low-impact multi-use (MU) of space, for example, integrating wind farm areas with multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA). The OLAMUR project aims to unite key sectors related to MU-LTA to demonstrate sustainable commercial solutions in the North and Baltic Seas. The project will focus on three pilot sites (Germany, Denmark, and Estonia), with a specific emphasis on an aquaculture-offshore wind farm-multi-use scenario in the German Bight near Helgoland, cultivating seaweed and bivalves in open ocean conditions.Your TasksYou will : Participate in the design, planning, and construction of offshore test sitesConduct sampling activities at the offshore test sitesContribute to the implementation and monitoring of sustainable aquaculture practices within the framework of the OLAMUR projectYour ProfileWe are looking for an enthusiastic technician who has a strong interest in marine aquaculture in the open ocean and the development of innovative aquaculture technologies.BTA in biology, ecology, or related disciplinesExperience in aquatic lab work and aquacultureSkills manual work with typical hand tools, i.e. manual abilitiesVery good English knowledge (C1)Good standard computer software skills (MS-Office-products)Interest and capacity for teamwork, international, inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration as well as the support of PhD students, students and internsWillingness and capability to participate in seagoing expeditionsWillingness and capability to stay on Helgoland for a period of several daysFurther InformationFor any questions you may have, you are very welcome to get in touch with Prof Dr Bela Buck ([email protected]; +49(471)4831-1868).This is a part-time position (29,25h) , limited to December 31st, 2026.
