JobDescription

The DirectorEngineering, Audio Systems directs and coordinates activities ofthe Audio engineering departmentsincluding :

  • Responsibility forelectroacoustic technology and audio electronics across the entireBU portfolio including speakers, microphones, headsets, amplifiers,signal processors and related equipment
  • Performrequired R&D in support of new product development andmaintenance activities
  • Accelerate and managenew product development to enable faster and broader penetration ofthe market.
  • Provide leadership and workdirection to the Engineering Managers and staff to ensure thatBosch establishes and maintains required technological leadershipin support of market requirements.
  • Accountablefor cost and schedule execution for projects withinportfolio
  • Understand and deploy Boschdevelopment processes and standards across Engineeringdepartments
  • Assure effective interface withother Bosch organizations.
  • Identifyopportunities to provide superior solutions.
  • Envision where technology is headed and createa plan to arrive there first
  • Manage thetechnology portfolio for multiple business lines.

SpecificResponsibilities :

Engineering andProduct Development

  • Supportsall engineering and product development related activities forassigned product areas.
  • Thinks creativelyalongside product management to identify technologies and solutionsto serve customer needs.
  • Interfaces withproduct management in the new product development process fromconception through market launch using Bosch PEP stage-gateprocess.
  • Confers with management, production,and logistics staff to determine engineering feasibility, costeffectiveness, and customer demand for new and existingproducts.
  • Directs department activities todesign new products, modify existing designs, improve productiontechniques, and develop testprocedures.
  • Integrates design team with supplychain and manufacturing.
  • Builds the technicalcapabilities, knowledge, and skills of this engineering function tobe recognized and valued as a source of competitive advantage bycustomers and other functions within the organization.

    • Manage Budget and OperatingCosts

  • Forecasts operatingcosts of department and directs preparation of budgetrequests.
  • Conceives, understands and defendsthe financial justification of new product development programssuch as cost estimation, ROI, make-vs-buy, and capital equipmentjustification.
  • Fosters outside relationshipswith technology providers and vendors.
  • Worksclosely with Business Line and Product Managers to determineR&D priorities andinitiatives.

    • ManagementActivities

  • Supervises,coordinates and reviews the work of a staff of engineers andtechnicians.
  • Estimates personnel needs,recruits and develops top talent.
  • Helps defineand assign work duties.
  • Analyzes technologytrends, and market demand to planprojects.
  • Constantly seeks to build world classEngineering Centers of Excellence.
  • Mapscritical skills necessary to achieve world-class status.

    • Qualifications

  • ABachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering orPhysics, with a minimum of 10 years design experience, and 5 yearsmanagement experience or equivalent blend of education andexperience.
  • Solid working knowledge ofacoustics and electroacoustic product design and professional audiosystems development including hardware, firmware and softwaredesign
  • Specific knowledge of professional audiospeaker design and construction ispreferred
  • Specific knowledge of transducerdesign is preferred
  • Specific knowledge ofprofessional audio product design including amplifiers and signalprocessors is preferred
  • Proven track record ofemploying rapid product development techniques to optimize projectimplementation timelines within budget.
  • Knowledge and successful use of leanprinciples, manufacturing engineering, and engineering processcontrol methods and techniques.
  • Ability toidentify and assign resources toward specific productinitiatives.
  • Outstanding team leadershipskills.
  • Exceptional ability to present andcommunicate to customers / prospects.
  • Thoroughknowledge of financial and managerial accounting principles asrelated to product development and engineeringinitiatives.
  • Proven experience in personnelsupervision and budget preparation andmanagement.
  • Willing to travel between companylocations and to and customer locations, includinginternational
