CAES Ahaus – Project Vision : Our vision for the CAES Ahaus project is to develop a commercial-scale, long duration energy storage facility that utilises innovative technology to accelerate Germany’s energy transition and benefit the local community. Key responsibilities Commercial development of the multi-hundred MW-scale CAES (Compressed Air Energy Storage) project “Speicherkraftwerk CAES Ahaus” up to FID with the potential to continue in role until COD when the plant becomes operational. The role is a mixed commercial-managerial role leading in-house finance- and commercial- and contracting experts and external consultants. Lead team members including a Financial Analyst, a Grant & Funding Lead, a Community Fund Lead. Together with the Project Director and Technical Project Manager oversee the delivery and continuous improvement of cost estimates for the project (DEVEX, CAPEX, OPEX) Manage commercial project progression in close alignment with project partners, developing strong relationships and integrating all commercial aspects of the project CAES Ahaus Active role in contract negotiations with partners, suppliers, offtakers and TSOs like Amprion or OGE. Co-definition of the project financing strategy i.e. public and private funding opportunities in alignment with the Corporate Finance Team. Lead the preparation of national German & European grant / subsidy applications for first of a kind industrial scale projects in energy storage. With consultants derive co-fuel costs and revenue assumptions for the business case calculation. Optimize the resulting project business case calculation in Excel in close collaboration with the Project Team. Planning & scheduling of the critical commercial activities required to deliver the project in line with expected timelines, cost baseline together with the Project Planner / Scheduler. Identification and management of commercial project risks and opportunities together with the Risk Manager. Foster a collaborative project environment with project partners, suppliers, and other project stakeholders. Supporting the Project Director in the hiring, building and improving the project team. Support with Public Affairs and Regulatory framework / policy shaping work streams in Germany. Support & participate in selected stakeholder engagement activities Support set up a local community fund & help communicate it locally Support the maturation of the wider Corre Energy project portfolio in Germany. Occasional participation in work groups at BVES industry association representing Corre Energy on commercial topics including regulations, policy interpretation & adaptation. Deliverables : Commercial deliverables progression towards FID and beyond for project CAES Ahaus. Ownership of project business case model the revenue estimates from the CAES plant jointly with Financial Analyst, Commercial Team, Technical Project Manager and Project Director. Derive and improve DEVEX, CAPEX, OPEX, ABEX estimates for the project’s business case model jointly with Project Director, Technical Project Manager and the whole project team. Commercially lead grid connection agreement negotiations with the electricity TSO Amprion. Commercially lead grid connection agreement negotiations with the gas TSO Open Grid Europe (OGE) Lead commercial aspects funding / subsidy applications on a German or European Level Commercial inputs to Risk Register Continuous updates & improvements of commercial activities & deliverables with Scheduler Support implementing the financing strategy for the CAES project with possible investors. Co-define strategies and regulatory framework / policy suggestions in the German energy storage sector as part of the collaboration with other storage solutions providers e.g in the BVES Qualifications : Master in relevant commercial or financial discipline or MBA degree and 5+ years experience in a similar role. Preferably in the energy industry. Experience leading a small commercial project team and reporting on commercial project progress, issues and requirements. Proven record of accomplishment of being able to build strong external and internal relationships with a business acumen. Strong team player with strong interpersonal skills as required to flexibly interact with personnel across all levels of the Group. Track record of successfully progressing first-of a kind large scale projects and willingness to work in a start-up / scale-up company environment. Flexibility, willingness to help and desire to learn. Experience with Grant / Funding Applications for an infrastructure project is an advantage. Experience with Community Funds for energy asset development projects is an advantage. Experience working with or in a German power TSOs an advantage.
