You will be based in our Dusseldorf, Madrid, or Lisbon office, joining the Energy Solutions team within McKinsey's Global Energy & Materials practice.

Your impact within our firm

As a Knowledge Analyst at McKinsey Energy Solutions within our Solar distributed generation team, you will help shape our client's strategies and go-to-market approach, drive business building, and support clients in hyper scaling and implementing operational excellence. You will also help develop our market intelligence proprietary knowledge on solar distributed generation, behind the meter batteries and adjacent technologies.

Solar distributed generation is responsible for ~50% of solar additions globally, being a key technology to enable the global path to decarbonization, bringing already electricity savings to millions of households and businesses. It is also a fast-moving high growth market, with multiple unexplored opportunities across markets, segments and product offering.

You will have the opportunity to evolve our world-leading solar distributed generation and behind the meter batteries perspectives and cater them to client needs. This may mean helping in defining overall strategy, product offering, sales and installation set-up, but also getting on the ground and supporting building businesses from scratch or accelerating existing businesses.

Daily problem solving will be a key part of your job. You will work in partnership with your manager, the leadership of Energy Solutions, our Solar distributed generation team and colleagues across the firm. Over time, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction in these topics, shape our assets and client approach. You will deepen your expertise on global energy markets and increasingly become the go-to-person in your content area, assisting colleagues and clients. This also includes longer-term client-serving projects.

Your qualifications and skills

• Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English (Spanish, German, French, Portuguese is a plus)
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and effectively with people at all levels in an organization
• Proven record of leadership in a work setting and / or through extracurricular activities
• Ambition to work in a fast-paced, result-oriented team with steep learning curve and strong commitment to coaching and development
• Advanced degree in management, engineering, economics or other discipline with a quantitative focus
• Initial experience in energy, distributed generation, new downstream, are a plus
• Comfortable with excel modeling; data analytics / coding knowledge is a plus
