Position

Training at the European Astronaut Centre (EAC), for the International Space Station (ISS) Astronauts and Ground Controllers, is implemented using simulators and mock ups of the Columbus module, its payloads and other parts of ISS. The Simulator Operator supports all operations, maintenance and upgrade of the simulators and mock-ups in close coordination with the training community at EAC.

  • Location : ESA EAC (Cologne, Germany)
  • Start date : August 2025.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Support :
  • Astronaut and Ground Support personnel training, involving the ISS and Columbus simulators, in association with the trainers and simulation directors

  • Post simulation and training assessment
  • Identify missing or to be enhanced simulation functionality to fulfil scenario needs
  • Prepare the simulation systems for each simulation session and preparing scenario scripts
  • Set up the simulators, monitor simulation sessions and, where appropriate, injecting anomalies
  • Coordinate simulator uses in simulations and integrated simulations
  • Perform :
  • Local maintenance tasks, backups and software installations on the simulators in coordination with the simulator maintenance team

  • Local maintenance tasks on Columbus Mock-up in coordination with the Columbus Crew Training responsible(s) at EAC
  • Participate in workshops and meetings as necessary.
  • Skills and Experience

  • A Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Strength to cope with schedules and deadlines
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • A proactive approach, with initiative and ability to work independently
  • Ability to :
  • Adhere to strict standards of confidentiality

  • Work in distributed international teams
  • Communicate on a professional level in English.
  • Considered as Assets

  • Experience in :
  • Human space flight mission operations, with an emphasis on ISS and Columbus operations, e.g. former certified flight / ground controller or console support person

  • Space flight simulator environments
  • Python programming
  • CGS commanding
