Moving mountains together as Principal Research Scientist II AI / ML Team Lead (all genders) (permanent / fulltime)

Responsibilities

Computational Drug Discovery (CDD) at AbbVie is a multifunctional global organization that drives computational approaches to small molecule drug discovery supporting all therapeutic areas. The mission of this organization is to apply stateoftheart computational chemistry machine learning and physicsbased methods to better understand protein structure / function and to accelerate the drug discovery process from hit generation to clinical candidate selection.

We are making significant investments in AI / ML methods to support all elements of the CDD mission and we are searching for a leader to bolster our expertise in the application of AI / ML methods for drug discovery programs. You will contribute to guiding the future direction of AI / ML in this space.

This position offers the flexibility to be based onsite in North Chicago IL Worcester MA South San Francisco CA or Ludwigshafen Germany.

Key Responsibilities :

Responsible for contributing to the scientific and strategic incorporation of AI / ML tools into existing CDD workflows.
Strategic Direction :

Interface closely throughout CDD membership to identify opportunities for incorporating AI / ML strategies to enhance contributions to drug discovery pipeline.

Collaborate with experts to leverage external innovation manage external research collaborations.

Make decisions based on review of available information and data.

Manage multiple projects within the AI / ML team enabling pipelinedriving science.

Scientific Leadership :

Identify develop optimize validate and deploy innovative methods for data mining molecular generation scoring and modeling that leverage AI / ML models and big data to enhance and apply molecular design capabilities.

Interface with AbbVie IT infrastructure teams to ensure effective deployment of AI / ML capabilities.

Qualifications :

Bachelors Degree in Science related field with 16 years of related work; Masters Degree Science or PharmD with 14 years of related work; PhD in Science or related field with 8 years of related work experience.

Managerial experience leading a scientific research team.

Strong track record of people technical and research project management with significant impact.

Strong track record of highimpact scientific achievement including a robust publication record.

Established network with key academic and industrial opinion leaders in machine learning and physics based computational research.

Knowledge and experience in stateoftheart modeling simulation and machine learning technologies / workflows as well as computing infrastructure to be able to leverage rich data collections to accelerate discovery in a fast paced and creative environment.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Strong leadership skills with ability to navigate multiple stakeholders while engaging and motivating your staff.
